C'mon man. Yes, Paluch had his shortcomings, but he got absolutely ZIP and PIP from the administration.

Well, this will truly shed light on where this administration sees the hockey program.

GOOD - If they conduct a national search and hire a good new coach.

BAD - The leave the interim guy in place. (No offense to the interim guy)

Anyway, I think this sounds like the perfect place Scott. I think he will do well and USA Hockey will be better for having him on board.

I believe maybe you should read the article about williams taking over as the interim coach..or ill just put it in this post here

"Williams, who completed his first season as an assistant coach in the BGSU program last year, resurrected the program at Neumann where the Knights’ record improved from a 3-21-1 mark the year before Williams arrived to 17-5-5 in his final season. His final two seasons at Neumann were the best in the program’s history to that time. Williams’ teams at Neumann compiled a 35-32-8 record in his three seasons.

Williams, 29, built a winning tradition at Neumann that culminated in March with the Knights capturing the Div. III national title led by a senior class that was recruited by Williams in his final year."

..I am sure that it would be nice to see a great coach brought in but with the programs future in doubt that will not happen until next year.....after reading this article I believe that this is the best person suited for the job regarding the circumstances. Williams and the BG program is going to surprise alot of folks next year.

Big rush and hurry in football to find a coach, yet not here. So sad CArtwright said football would never be lowered...what will they do when they can not meet the attendance requirements and corporations cant buy all the empty seats?
Int. coach DW is a very young alumni, and with all repeated talk of the redskin model could it be that they are hopeful to not have to look any farther than young former falcon?
Could it be that some of the potential replacements will not consider coming until some things are spelled out as far as the reality of the University keeping BGSU 's BEST sport, the updating the facility so that they may actually have stronger recruiting to it?
that is my guess.

This is pure speculation on my part but the "interim" title for Williams seems to cover two problems:

1. With the future of the program still unsettled and it being nearly July already the administration may realize that the chances of finding another decent candidate is slim to none.

2. Making Williams the "interim" head coach means they don't have to give him a multi-year contract which they would still have to honor if they end up cutting the program after next season.

That said I hope Dennis does a fantastic job, the donors come out in droves and we can turn this program around. He did a great job as a DIII coach and spent a year working under Danton Cole at UAH.

After searching other college hky related forums it seems most think Williams sucesses at UAH and in DIII will be a good fit for BG. So it sounds like we have a good interim coach and maybe full head coach in the future. My guess is after the Unv. figures out the future of BGSU they will then start searching for a replacement, if Williams does good he may become the frontrunner.

Paluch did some good stuff ... but his post-season record speaks for itself. It was well past time for a change and we get as seamless of a transition as possible. I couldn't be happier about BG Hockey right now.

CONGRATS to Coach Williams! I remember watching him play and if he brings the same intensity, and past performance indicates he will, to the head coaching position as he brought to the ice game in and game out then we will be in good hands.

I hope he is not reading this board. But if he is, there are some out here that are happy to have you as BGSU's newest head coach and wish you all the success in the world. We will not throw doubt or wish someone else had the job. Go out, and teach our team to play solid hockey. That is what I want to see win or lose.

Maybe someday everyone will stop making this a sport against sport issue and treat is for what it is, an opportunity to put the entire department on solid financial footing. Building up one sport by wishing for the destruction of another will gain us no favor with those making the decisions. The last time I checked it takes more than one sport to make up an athletic "department!" Hockey is just one of the pieces.

Setting up an endowment for Hockey is great, but an endowment needs to be set up for the entire department. Let's get some numbers and work at this over time and make it happen. This is an area BGSU has really dropped the ball.

Congrats again coach. Do your thing and don't worry about what is said on this board, in any committee, or anywhere else.

Actually another good would be what others have mentioned and that Williams does well enough that he becomes the full-term head coach.

Each team has the option of setting up an endowment if they choose. Hockey is one of the only ones where the potential money is available due to the numerous alumni in the program.

First, I think everyone needs to at least thank Pooch for the time he put in. He was expected to field a competitive team with an administration that had no clue how to fund a team. He always brought in players that competed and was genuinely a nice guy. I was very happy to hear he had another job lined up before he got the axe (Don't be fooled, this wasn't him 'stepping down'). And, despite all the negatives he'll take he is and will always be a Falcon.

With all of that said, Scott was over his head here. He was expected to recruit kids to an arena with holes in the roof, holes in the walls, and equipment from the 60s. He was never able to relate to his players and was extremely stubborn even when facing obvious failures. Unfortunately he burnt a lot of bridges with some alumni that hopefully Dr. Vivian can mend.

There's no doubt that Coach Williams has a lot of work ahead of him. No one's expecting a championship season. But, we do expect our players to represent names like Emerson, McPhee, and Sigalet with the honor they deserve. Re-build those ties to the alumni and give the former players a reason to come back.

He made the best of an impossible situation, and in doing so, did about the only thing he seemed able to do which would help BGSU hockey.

His stepping down clears at least one issue which had some people supposedly on the sidelines, and ends the talk of needing to buy SP out THIS year.

It leaves the entire body of people wanting to secure the future of BGSU hockey, able to focus on fewer things.

that is my guess.

Your guess is wrong. Technically, women's hoops is the BEST BG sport at this time.

No I am not joking. What is a joke a huge joke is that MAC football thinks they belong in D1a and that they are some how competitive, "mid major" not even. But I am willing to accept the idea that they will cling on to concept and feel it is more important to be part of D1a football, than to be in teir lower and actually competitive.

Again, no offense to Coach Williams but it they leave him in place for coming year this program is done without a miracle. IMHO, They need a name coach with slightly more experience than coaching at the powerhouse Neumann. Someone who can infuse life into the donor base.

Sorry, but I just don't see someone like him being able to resurrect this program in one year, which is what we need. Look, I hope he proves me wrong, but we have major problems here and we need a major commitment from the administration...and leaving an "interim" coach in place with no real resume is anything but that!
