UT establishes radio network

Post by bgsufn »

From the Toledo Blade...
University of Toledo football expects to expand its radio listenership beginning this fall thanks to the recent establishment of the University of Toledo Football Radio Network.

Toledo-based WSPD (1370 AM) will serve as the flagship station for a network of stations across northern Ohio and southeast Michigan taking part in syndicated broadcasts of UT football games. Detroit's WDTW (1310 AM) is signed on and another station in the Cleveland area is expected to join the group.

"The appeal of Rocket athletics stretch far beyond Toledo and northwest Ohio," UT athletic director Mike O'Brien said. "The opportunity this radio network represents for increasing outreach to our supporters is incredible."

This will be the 43rd year UT football games will be carried by WSPD, which has a 5,000-watt signal. Mark Beier, longtime voice of the Rockets, is headed into his 15th season as UT play-by-play announcer. Rocket hall of famer Tom Duncan of BCSN will serve as color commentator.

UT men's basketball games will also be carried on the group of stations.
All I can think of is that Gary in Michigan will better be able to follow the Rockets now! :-D

I wonder if at least SOME of the interest for N.Ohio radio is that the Rockets play a game in Cleve. Browns Stadium this year.... can't remember the opponent, but they'll be listed as the HOME team, even though it probably won't turn out that way.

H2O,
I've got to hand it to UT re: how the OSU people can get tix...by in essence, joining your booster group...(I'm assuming they still did what was originally reported...creating, in essence, PSL's for OSU's)... Any time the MAC can "screw" OSU, it's A-OK with me.

I'm with Class of 61 on this one You have to appreciate the way the UT athletic dept. is structuring their ticket sales for the game in Cleveland. It should be a big boost for their whole program.
