Any football reports?

Post by MarkL »

It's been pretty silent on the BG football front recently. Anybody know, see or hear anything new about the team? Anything about how the RBs are doing? About how the defense is growing up? Any significant injury updates? All new I can say is I saw Willie Geter returning punts and man does he have a quick first two steps.

I received an invite to a season ticket holder (and flex ticket holders) function on Aug 15 at the Doyt. They did this last year as well. The entire new coaching staff and some players will be present, 6-7, and then we have the chance to watch the team scrimmage afterwards.

Simply cannot wait to see Falcon Football again...

Any updates would be cool to hear!

I'm planning on attending this function on Aug. 15th, and I see there will also be a scrimmage game afterwards. Sounds interesting.

Hopefully the Claw is grabbing the reins tight and keeping the players in line!

Consider no news as good news. No public urination, break-ins, or credit card usage or other off-field antics to report. On the injury front, nothing major just some minor tweaks here and there.

The guys are doing their strength testing this week, finishing up with a midnight team lift before getting a one week break. Camp begins Aug. 3. Players and parents are definitely ready for this season.

Coach Clawson was on 1230 WCWA during the Mud Hens game on Monday night and talked a little bit about the team, his schemes and the expectations of the upcoming season. He talked about how he was going to incorporate some of Brandon's formations because he felt a total overhaul of the system would take too long for players to learn. He felt that the players would be more comfortable in formations they were familiar with. Said he feels that the offense will have to carry team, especially early on since the defense is very young and lost a lot of starters. He also felt that Tyler will have a good season and that his potential was somewhat stunted last year with questionable playcalling and the QB draw. Expect Geter to be the starting RB and Bullock will be used for short yardage situations.

Lastly, coach felt that the first home game against Troy is very important to win to get fans to support the team this year. Mentioned the poor home record last year and how they need to establish a winning feel at the Doyt early on this year.

Hope that helps somewhat!

Coach Clawson is bring in 105 players for camp this year. 45 players included the new scholarship players to the team and walk-ons.

Compared to last year there was 70 players reported to camp.

Looking forward to a fun season.

Stopped by the office earlier today and the coaches are out until Thursday (retreat).
