Getting To Know: Bowling Green's Jahmal Brown

Jahmal Brown is a senior defensive back for the Bowling Green Falcons. Brown played and started in all 12 games last season and was third on the team with 83 tackles. He had a career-high 14 tackles in a win at Pittsburgh and also had double-digit tackles versus Northern Illinois, Ohio and Buffalo. Get to know more about the BGSU defensive back below...

1. Why did you choose Bowling Green?

I chose to attend Bowling Green State University because of the family atmosphere within the team. On my visit I felt as if I was already a part of the team and I was excited about the programs rich tradition.

2. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far as an athlete?

My greatest accomplishment so far as an athlete is making it to play Division I college football.

3. What do you still hope to accomplish in the future?

I hope to win a MAC championship my senior season here at BGSU.

4. What is the best advice you have received from a coach?

“ Every Division I college athlete is working out right now! So just working out is not enough, what extra are you doing to better yourself.” -Coach Aaron Hillman

5. What are your goals for this season?

My goals for this season are to not only have a winning season, but to compete for and win a MAC championship. I believe with team success individual success will follow.

6. Do you have higher expectations going into this season than last?

Yes! As an athlete what you accomplished last season is just a thing of the past and once the new season begins, it no longer means anything. I believe in having the mind set that if your not getting better, your getting worse.

7. How did you get started playing football?

Football was my fathers favorite sport and it was kind of just passes on to me.

8. What is your favorite beverage/food/dessert?

My favorite beverage besides Gatorade is Tahitian treat, my mom is a great cook so I can eat just about anything she cooks. My favorite desert is strawberry cheesecake.

9. If you can have one animal be extinct, which would it be?

None. Every animal plays a part in maintaining the environment. Getting rid of one could cause for extinction of another and the effect would go on and on.

10. What would you like to be doing in ten years?

In ten years if im not playing professional football somewhere I would like to be a strength and conditioning coach.

11. What were you up to this summer?

This summer I was taking summer classes and doing what I could to better myself for this upcoming football season.

12. What is your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is failure. I think the fear of failure alone should be enough to push people to do something with their lives.

13. What would your ideal job be? (outside of playing sports professionally)

My ideal job would be to be a head strength and conditioning coach.

14. What was your youth sports highlight?

My youth sports highlight was when I scored the game winning two point conversion in overtime to win the muny league championship game when I was 10 years old.

15. What’s the best part of being a Division I athlete?

The experience. You will probably never get a chance to experience anything like this again in life. The people you meet and the experience all together is priceless.

16. What are your pregame rituals?

Before every game, before I get dressed or anything, myself and all of the defensive backs go to center field and say a prayer thanking God for blessing us with another day to play the game we all love.

17. What is your favorite campus hangout?

My favorite hangout spot in Bowling Green has to be my apartment. Over the past couple of years my apartment has become the hangout spot for myself and some of my teammates.

18. What is your favorite TV show? Why?

My favorite TV shows are The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Martin. These in my opinion are two of the funniest comedy tv shows of the 90's.

19. Who was your greatest athletic influence?

Barry Sanders. He was one of the best running backs to ever play the game but yet he was so humble about everything he did.

20. The artist that takes up most of my iPod...

I have two artists that take up most of my Ipod space. Those two artists are Jay-z and Young Jeezy.

Well considering the interview was probably transcribed, I'd say it was most definitely the website's fault.
