Ferentz gets 7 years 21 million

I think he is a good coach, but I don't really know. He is looked at for the NFL every year but Iowa isn't ever really that good. Is this too much for a just over mediocre coach. I don't really care about the money, but why the longterm deal?

Probably for the exact reason you stated: to get the NFL teams to stop talking about him. It has to hurt their recruiting that he's rumored for NFL jobs all the time.

I think he's a pretty good coach, and Iowa is a tough place to field a consistent winner...not a lot of great local talent there. He's continually stated that he wants to stay at Iowa, so I guess just sign the long term deal, and hope the rumors will shut up?

FWIW, kid from Anthony Wayne just committed to Iowa. 6'7", 280 lb offensive tackle. Saw him play basketball, so he has some agility too. Supposedly he is one of the top 25 offense lineman recruits in the country.

I never understood why there is such an interest in him year in and year out. I would rate him an above average coach but still wouldn't put him in the same class as Hayden Frye.

Good coach...don't think he's worth $3 mil a year but I guess they do in Iowa City.
