Bowling Green Asst. coach

Post by Tricky_Falcon »

Search info from the Dispatch

Bowling Green has an opening for an assistant basketball coach, and two names that are being considered should be familiar to Ohio State fans. Dennis Hopson, currently on Rollie Massimino's staff at Northwood (Fla.) University and Devon Smith, who has been on the staffs at Oakland, Louisville and Indiana Southeast, are in the hunt.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Dennis Hopson a Toledo kid? Would be great for local recruiting and connections...

The news of Coach Jackson's departure for Cincinnati first surfaced on Tuesday, May 26th.

Since that point, an Associate Justice for the United States Supreme Court has been nominated, confirmed and sworn in.

How the heck long does it take to find an assistant men's basketball coach?

My guess is this is a MONEY SAVING MEASURE and nothing else. I bet someone will be "named" about September 1 or a little before, so we didn't have to pay the salary all summer.

Well this is an interesting way to find out we did indeed lose Coach Jackson. I never heard any news of his departure. Sad to lose him as I think he was a very good assistant. So did Jackson leave for another assistant job at Cincy? Seems like a lateral move at best , although the money is probably better.

If we get the right guy, who cares how long it takes? It's not like recruiting has suffered, from what I can tell...

The seat can sit open for a year, for all I care... just fill it with the right guy when it gets filled!

Have you applied Grant? I know you are looking for a job and this may be a good fit for you.

3 words: recruiting, recruiting and recruiting. We were undermanned throughout the entire July evaluation period, when staffs fan out to AAU events and camps across the country to observe prospects.

Luckily it seems recruiting has been going OK. Imagine how well it could have gone if we were not one coach short and operating on the same playing field with our competitors.

(I think factman is right on target when he says it's a contract starting time issue.)

Cincy is a Big East team. They've been down recently and jury's out on if they can revive the success of the Huggins era. That being said ... this is a team that has been to the Final Four, has been known for some big upsets, and plays in one of the top two basketball conferences. Not a lateral move at all if you ask me.

It was on the BGSUFalcons.com website on June 8, according to this ...

A mention of the search for an assistant in the blog on this site:

Not sure how accurate it is, but isn't the season starting soon? An assistant should be on board already.
