Crow doesn't taste good anytime....you might want to aquire a taste for the near future. I simply don't see how you can make a statement like that when this staff hasn't even coached one game yet. :roll:

But, you have a right to view your opinion so fire away. If Coach Clawson and this staff bomb, I'll be the first one to congratulate you and state how correctly you assessed the staff.

I feel like this would be a good time to remind everyone of the "Friend - Foe" functionality of phpBB3 message boards. You can click on the "profile" button at the bottom of any user's post and it will take you to their user profile page. Here you can add to friends or add to foes. If someone is added as a foe their posts will be hidden to you. AKA the "Ignore button"

It wouldn't be a correct assessment, though. It would be a lucky guess.

As far as BG, I have no idea what to look for. Hopefully we'll see a little more diversity on offense, instead of qb draws and no throws over 10 yards. That's what I'm most excited about.

Back on target, but it's already been elaborated on at the beginning of the thread. The true answer to the OP's question is that even we don't really know what to look for.

Defensively our safeties are playmakers and have been starting for awhile now. I think we're all very comfortable with Brown & Mahone in the defensive backfield. Beyond them, however, it's nothing but question marks. We're replacing 2 four year starting QBs, and most of our starting front 7 is gone as well. We've got some guys that have played a lot of snaps, but few that are really proven.

Offensively we return a 2+ year starter at QB. He's been solid throughout his career, but never shown much real playmaking ability. He hasn't shown the ability to diagnose a defense and get the ball downfield, most of our passing game has consisted of routes under 15 yards. He did show some ability to run with the ball last year, but he's not a major threat, more like he'll catch the defense off guard.

We lost our leading rusher, our #1 WR, and our #3 WR. The leading rusher wasn't a true tailback, he was former QB slash type player, but we will definitely miss the versatility he brought to our offense. However, we do still have 2 very capable tailbacks in Bullock & Geter. Bullock has always produced, but received a mysteriously small amount of playing time in the previous regime's reign of terror. Geter has been electric when on the field, but has shown a propensity for fumbling and credit card fraud. Let's hope both of those are behind him. At the WR spot Barnes is a capable playmaker, but like Geter, we counted on him to step up last year and he got hurt, missed time, and lost some effectiveness. If this offense is going to do anything they NEED a healthy Barnes & Geter.

We do return a pretty good group of OL guys. That could be enough to keep our offense effective.

We're trotting out a Freshman for our kicking duties, so who knows what that'll bring.

On top of the talent losses we're replacing a coaching staff that had lost all sense of discipline with the team. We have high hopes that the new staff will whip these guys into shape, and hopefully we'll start to see the returns on that investment sooner rather than later, but honestly we don't know. The team is full of questionmarks. I hope for the best, but until we start to see them on the field, we really don't know what to look for.

One of the areas Hemi Man didn't include in his post are our LBs. Boris Lee, Bear Woods and David McDowell are very good. Woods and Lee in particular gelled as a duo last year and are the heart and soul of the Defense. They combined for 234 tackles last year and were the top two tacklers on the team. Unfortunately, due to a red-shirt snafu a couple years ago, Bear Woods has to sit out the first two games of the season (BGSU & UF), and will be sorely missed. Filling in for him will probably be Daniel Sheffield, Donnell Golden and Kanorris Davis, which are all very capable fill-ins.

The Defense, in general, is outstanding. This is the best group of defensive players Troy has ever fielded, and it's up to them to see if it's the best unit ever fielded. This group has the potential to exceed the 2002 Troy Defense, which finished the season as the 4th ranked defense in the country, and was only our second year at the FBS level. Granted, that team included Osi Umeniyora and Demarcus Ware.

Also, regarding our receiving corps. Jernigan, Jarboe, Williams, Gill, Silvoy are going to be the main guys getting their hands on the ball when it's thrown, along with Andrew Davis as the "possession" type guy. Jernigan is the playmaker, so he will get lots of touches. Last season Jernigan had 77 receptions, 33 rushes, 4 punt returns, 3 kick returns, and 2 passes (QB in high school) so they're going to try to get him the bal about 10 times per game, at least. Last year we threw to 22 different players (4 were non-receivers), and 12 of those guys scored TDs, so we spread the ball alot.

Just some stuff to add to what was put out there earlier.

Seriously...the kid's name is Bear Woods? How many thousands of times have people asked him where he shits?

His name is Jonathan Mark Woods, but has gone by "Bear" for years. If you go to the thread here titled Troy Football Player, the second post is a picture of him (red dreadlocks). He is ferocious on the field, but is one of the best people you could ever meet.

He's grown his hair long many times over the years, and when he has it cut, he donates to "Locks of Love", which makes natural hair wigs for cancer patients.

Also, here's a story about him which really tells a lot about his character;

And here is a link to a thread which starts off with a picture of Boris (2) and Bear (48) after the last regular season game last year, and the announcement about the New Orleans Bowl had been made on the field. http://gotroytrojans.com/forums/showthr ... Bear+Woods" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Effin eh...that is way cool. I am doing the same thing and will be cutting my hair soon and donating to "Wigs For Kids", in Rocky River, Oh (west of Cleveland). They do the same thing for kids going thru hair loss due to chemo and treatment.

I'd like to meet Woods...Jake and I will stop by the Troy locker room after talking with the BG players after the game.
