I'm watching Outside the Lines right now on ESPN, and they're talking about search firms and college athletic coaches. BG was shown in a graphic stating it used a search firm for its hire of Clawson. The average cost of a firm is $44,000. OTL is interviewing Wake Forest's AD and he says he understands why school's use these firms but points out it's the Athletic Director and Departments jobs to find and hire coaches, it's in the job description. A big donor or a few donor's must have thrown some money out if we can afford to fire and still pay Brandon, hire a search firm and pay Clawson.

Brandon leaving was most definitely paid for by donors.Tricky_Falcon wrote:A big donor or a few donor's must have thrown some money out if we can afford to fire and still pay Brandon, hire a search firm and pay Clawson.

Re: OTL
This administration has used more money on search firms, studies and "plans" than what they have accomplished in projects! If we would hire the "right" people, they would have the knowledge and insight to do much of this in house and spend the money on facilities, salaries, and maintenance instead of going to other people for services that we should be able to do ourselves.
Just my opinion.

I would agree that hiring/firing and fund raising should be a large portion of an administrator's job. I would be concerned if the design and engineering of campus structures, utilities and traffic patterns was handled by the administration.
The best argument for consulting at BGSU would be the Ice Arena issue where Jack Vivian is far superior to anyone in the whole state on these issues. The University did employ him as a sports mgt. instructor at one point (late 80's/early 90's) and certainly could have better utilized his talents much sooner.

Re: OTL
You know, I remember when they announced the hiring of Dave Clawson, Mr. Christopher talking about his file that all Athletic Director's have and how Clawson was at the top of his list. Why did he need a firm to tell him this was a good idea? I'm confused.
