Rumors are Jimmy Spratt has signed a contract with Johnstown.... no official numbers yet on what the deal is but I have heard he is signed with the Chiefs as of this week.

Signed with Johnstown and not Calgary (who drafted him) then assigned to Johnstown?

Ouch.

He wasn't invited to Calgary's Prospect Camp this summer, so I take it he's no longer in their plans. No offense to Spratt, but he was drafted 4 years ago and hasn't shown much progress since then, IMO. He did attend Bandits Goalie School this summer though :supz: , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXqkXNggEVw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But at least he'll get to prove himself in the pros. If he does well there hopefully he finds a contract with an AHL team.

I know the original poster didn't know how much his deal was for. I was wondering how much ECHL players make too and I found this article, http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ ... /710070330" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For a goalie to go right from college to the NHL is getting more and more rare. The older established icons, with modern training and health care are remaining on the top of thier games longer, there just is not a lot of turn over. He has caught the eyes of some people, and now all he needs is a good break, just like the rest of the goalies that have moved on from college. Teh next levels just get harder and harder.

I didn't expect him (or any other college goalie) to go straight to the NHL but the fact that Calgary is willing to give up his rights by not signing him and sending him to the minors says to me that they don't see any future in him.

The last goalie I remember who actually is having some success straight from college is Al Montoya.

Ryan Miller comes to my mind

GArth Snow Maine back in the late 80's
But both of those guys, if I am not mistaken were drafted in the first four or 5 rounds.
