The "Full Pull" idea might be alright, but I definitely would not support the rest of that. Sorry. Consider me stuck up if you want, but it just wouldn't happen.

Imagine every student at the game wearing an orange shirt or orange hat with "full pull" on it. How fun would that be? Lighten up people.

Re: Gameday Experience Observations
First off, I do not associate farmers with "hicks." I have a healthy farming tradition in my mom's side of the family, and my fiancee is an agricultural (animal science) major at Tennessee. If I thought all farmers were hicks, I might as well call myself one by association.
However, if BG were to start working tractors and farm imagery into their persona, I have no doubt that fans of other schools would quickly begin to think of BG as something of a redneck/hick school. Especially if we have a giant tractor just outside the endzone. And again, I'm not saying that rural imagery necessarily should immediately call up the word "redneck" or "hick" in people's minds, but the fact is that it would. And it's a reputation I'd rather not have given to BG. If for no other reason than that I don't want to have to hear people giving us crap for it, which you know they would. The negatives just outweigh any positives here.
Now, could BG do some things to make us a tad more unique? Probably. But at the same time, I don't feel that we're bland the way we are now. Nearly every school has a few traditions that are unique to them and then several things that are basically the same amongst all college football programs. BG is just the same way with Ay Ziggy Zoomba, the playing of the Beer Barrel Polka before the band exits, the Falcon screech (although I haven't heard that played in awhile). The point is, we have some traditions that are very much BG, without having to add something that gimmicky.
All that being said, if we just did the "full pull" part, I could be ok with it, much like Peregrinner said. However, trucker hats, and a big tractor? Thanks but no thanks.

Hold up...I was agreeing with you about almost everything up until you said to keep Troy's band and replace the 3rd down song...To me that means replace the FMB and everything it's about, and that is something I do NOT take to kindly. If you want a huge 300+ band that just blasts every single note and doesn't actually play music...then there's one about 2 hours or so away in a town called Columbus...enjoyBGfootballfan wrote:I am glad some people on here can see this would be fun. We were yelling full pull last night on every first down and it was fun!! I am glad not everyone on here takes themselves to seriously, and is willing to give something that would be fun for fans a shot. Now, if we could (1)Keep Troy's band, (2)Get rid of sweet caroline, and (3) find a replacement for the most generic 3rd down song on the planet, we would be all set.
GO Falcons!!
Keep up the good ideas!!

Woah, woah, woah...say what you want about jerk-off fans of OSU but that band is amazing and failing to recognize that makes you look like an idiot. They are loud because they are all brass, not because they "just blast every note and (don't) actually play music. Sorry Strouse but they aren't called TBDBITL for nothing.

The Ohio State Band is awesome. The Troy band was awesome. These are good examples of football bands. They get the crowd into it, play good music, and are loud enough for everyone to hear. And the third down song is the generic hell's bells, if the FMB plays something on third down no one can hear it. Hells Bells has to go.
Re: Gameday Experience Observations
We should also start wearing black uniforms and change the name of the stadium. Is there anything you are ok with? Jeez, we just beat a good Troy team 31-14. Can we enjoy it for at least the weekend before we start tearing apart what is wrong with BG?BGfootballfan wrote:The Ohio State Band is awesome. The Troy band was awesome. Not to slam the ideas because I'm all for them...but full pulls happen at all tractor pulls, not just the ones in BG.
No need to start the band wars on the football board either. It's an argument that has become very old. A bunch of FMB kids will get worked up, others who think they understand music will get worked up, others who worship osu will get worked up, and it will end in a flame war. Everyone has an idea about how a "football band" should be. Some universities have traditions in how their band is composed. The traditions will stick, the opinions will come in go every 4 years (maybe less, maybe more). Who's opinion is right? No one really cares...the whole argument is pointless to bring up anymore!

Re: Gameday Experience Observations
If you want to include the tractor pull because the national tractor pull is held in Bowling Green, then we need to park an RV at the other endzone because the national motorcoach convention was here this past summer, we need a paint brush logo at the north 25 because we have the Black Swamp Arts Festival, and we need a gavel logo at the south 25 because BGSU is the home of Boys State.
The point I'm trying to make is that we need to realize the difference between BGSU and BG. BGSU is unique in its own right, and adding "Full Pull", although creative, would have zero meaning to BGSU. We are the falcons. What kind of relation can be drawn between falcons and tractors? Now, if we drive east 90 minutes, I can see full pull incorporated at Norwalk High School, because they are the Truckers. If anything, bring back the falcon screech, because that at least had something to do with Falcons.
If we start to incorporate items into our gameday experience that had nothing to do with BGSU whatsoever, and was just an attempt to be different, we would quickly become the laughing stock of the NCAA. Imagine if Bowling Green got a new third mascot, and it was a Japanese Beetle. Most people would say, "Nice costume, by what does this have to do with anything?"

Gee, what happened to just celebrating without some corny saying.
I like to clap a little on first down plays, and if they're big plays I like to yell incoherently, a bit.

When the players ran onto the field I kind of liked that custom built motor cycle with Freddie on the back.

Re: Gameday Experience Observations
Good experience last night. The students were awesome! Lots of them and they stayed the full game! Hats off to them. Unfortunately, the rest of the falcon faithful weren't in attendance. 14,000+, I would like to think we can do better than that... The FMB was loud and proud, I loved the Chicago show! The Doyt looked sharp and I was happy to be able to use my Doyt dollars easily! I had a bratwurst and it was delicious! Our new PA announcer was enthusiastic, which adds to the game day experience. The absolute best part was how hard the team played on the field! They played hard, CLEAN football. Troy played hard and they will win some games this season.
As for the suggestions for the tractor pull connection....... I'll pass. Not a fan of trucker hats. Not a fan of tractor pulls per se. More than that, I don't see that doing anything to motivate more people to attend..... Selling beer at the game probably would!
