First "FMB"

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

Check out my latest post on the main page of this site. Click on the thumbnail of the picture and read the caption/view the full-size image of the very first BG Marching Band (they weren't the Falcons back then... but hey)

I've seen that image several times over the years. I love history and I'm a proud to be a simple part of BGSU's history.

Thanks for posting, brother.

I had seen the photo before too, but never read the caption below it. What fun!

I remember the caption as well. I was known to go to the library to look at some available archives. Some of those were old Keys. Although I don't specifically remember which year, I remember flipping through one from each decade the Key was available.

I love history.

YD, I'm the one in the snappy looking tam.

Great find, Grant.

Its interesting to me that they're still marching as the civil war-era bands did with the tubas and trombones at the front of the group. During the civil war the bands were arranged that way because the people on those parts were playing the over-the-shoulder ophecleids and marching in front of the other soldiers, so from the perspective of the soldiers they were playing to, the tubas were still in the back.

Yeah, I like history too. I'm a nerd.
