Diyral Briggs

Post by Rollo83 »

Briggs had three tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage for the 49ers last night. He played the entire second half and apparently is getting attention of the organization and his fellow players. Here is a quote from starting 49ers linebacker Takeo Spikes after the game last night...

LINEBACKER TAKEO SPIKES

On who he is seeing emerge on defense?: “Our outside linebacker Diyral – he’s a rookie – Briggs. He’s doing a great job. He’s a smart guy, a smart young guy, very attentive. I think what you’re seeing out here on the field, that’s a testimony to what he puts in throughout the week. He’s one of the guys – there are several guys, several guys.”

He had a fourth on special teams, too and got in early in the third quarter. Good to see out of an undrafted FA. Keep it up Diyral!

Great to hear...Briggs is making an impression.

On a side note, I was not aware Khary Campbell was with Houston now...I kept looking for him during the Washington/Pittsburgh game and didn't see him. Googled his name and found out he is now with the Texans.

That must be new this week. After I saw he didn't resign with Washington, I googled around and didn't see that he was picked up anywhere. Good to see he latched on!

I also caught a bit of the Arizona game on NFL Network last night. Saw Steve Sanders suited up on the sideline, but I dont' think he got in (which isn't much of a surprise). He's wearing #10.

Suisham hit his only FG attempt, from 20 yards, but the other guy handled both PAT's.

Saw Scott M. play a bit at the end of the Chargers game, too.

Hopefully Diyral will make the squad. It would be good to get more Falcons on the D side of the NFL.

Just flipped over to the NFL Network right as the aforementioned Takeo Spikes interview took place during the re-broadcast of the Oak/SF game. Pretty cool to hear an NFL veteran to have such high praise for a guy who is one of my all-time favorites at BG. I think I'm going to have to stick with this game for the chance to see DB get some hits in. :)

Edit: I had totally forgotten that Nate Davis was with the 49er's, but holy crap is he having a good game. He looks as good as he ever did with BSU. It's always good to see former MAC players excelling at the next level.

I'm stunned Davis did so well. After seeing his collapse at the end of his college career, I expected him to be an NFL bust. I'd say I'm pleasantly stunned to see a former MAC great excelling thus far in the NFL. Given the shaky QB situation at SF, if he keeps improving, you never know ... :D

Well, didn't a certain Ex-Toledo QB fall (fail) into that role in Tampa a few years back?

Actually, Gradkowski and Frye are with the Raiders right now. There were a lot of MAC QB's in that game, and it was kind of funny to see the two of them playing on the same team, but that doesn't bode well for the future of Oakland's offense.

Here's an article on Briggs from 49ers.com yesterday. Link Me!

Sounds like the teammates and fans really like how he's played. Had a sack and forced fumble on one 4th quarter play last night, though the NFL.com stats credit it to a different #47. Five tackles altogether, he made the most of his last chance to impress. (Though I did read that he was offsides on a fumble recovery.)

Seems to be a lock for the practice squad out there, but has kept his name in the hat for a roster spot.

Good luck Diyral!

The 49ers have trimmed to 53, and Briggs was not listed among those cut.

Here's a list of cuts from the 49ers, which don't include Diyral

Sounds like Diyral really turned some heads in camp. In some not so good news Khary Campbell was cut by the Houston Texans today.

More praise for Briggs from Mike Singletary:

On the flip side of the painful cuts, the roster announcement marked a thrilling day for Diyral Briggs. An undrafted linebacker from Bowling Green, the linebacker's steady play punched his NFL ticket.

Briggs, 6-4, 230 pounds, distinguished himself on the practice field and in the four preseason games. Fellow linebackers Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes each singled out Briggs when asked during training camp to name the player who impressed them most.

Singletary said: "He's young. He has the talent. Going forward, we want to see him develop. He's still raw, we just have to work with him."
