As H2O said, they played the games they scheduled and they won them. If it were BG that had beaten Michigan (or dominated a "low" Colorado team), I'm sure your feelings would be different.

BG played hard and lost to the #25 ranked team in the country last night who is no longer in the AP top 25. UT will be playing the #11 team in the country next week after playing two BCS conference teams. Neither situation is anything to be ashamed of.

I mean, yeah, I get that it's Toledo and it's just the thing to do to talk crap, but sometimes the direction people take it on this board is laughable.

The part about the Colorado game was my mistake. Fuzzy memory about the Wyoming/Boise switch.

The main point stands, though.
A couple clarifications.

1) I never considered Minnesota to be a chest thumping win.

2) I would feel exactly the same way if it was BG: pleased but still realizing those teams were at their nadir when it happened.

3) I only criticized the win after I heard people bending over backwards to praise them for it. It was a mediocre accomplishment at best and didn't warrant the adulation it was receiving.

There definitely is some merit in the "Toledo-beats-bad-BCS-opponents talk", but there still is a good amount of respect established for the program ...

2006 - UT beat Kansas, a mediocre at best B12 North team that played an AWFUL game but did get better later in the season.
2007 - UT beat Iowa State, one of the worst B12 teams from 2005 until now.
2008 - UT beat Michigan in a very down year in a game that showed more how far Michigan had fallen than how good UT was.
2009 - UT beat Colorado, a team that could easily go 0-12 this year.

Note ... unless something huge happens to CU this year which I do not see happening, none of the teams above went bowling that season.

This does not look like too much, especially considering since 2005, we have played:
2005 - Wisconsin, finished top few B10, beat Auburn in a bowl game.
2006 - Wisconsin, lost one game all year to Rose Bowl bound Michigan, beat Arkansas in a bowl game.
2006 - Ohio State, undefeated regular season, chumps in the national champ game
2007 - Minnesota, finished 1-11 with a 3OT win over Miami, no bowl.
2007 - Michigan State, top half B10, lost to BC in a bowl game.
2007 - Boston College, got as high as #2 in the nation (I think) and chumps in ACC title game, beat MSU in a bowl game.
2008 - Pitt, ranked 25, pre-season Big East darling with pre-season AA LeSean McCoy in the backfield, lost to OrSt in a bowl game.
2008 - Minnesota, biggest comeback team of the B10 for first half of season, lost to Kansas in a bowl game.
2009 - Mizzou, ranked 25, off of two consecutive B12 North titles

That being said ... we only beat two of the teams above (and one of them was the only bad team listed, only one that didn't go to a bowl game). Yes, we are scheduling harder opponents, and yes a win for us over a harder opponent means more ... but UT winning is still a win, no matter how you slice it. Any MAC team would love to have beaten a BCS team in each of the past four years, even if those four teams are I-State, Baylor, Wazzou, and Syracuse.

Toledo has a great opportunity in a few days. Beat a down and very beatable Ohio State team at "home" on Saturday and UT shocks the world. If that happens, any talk of UT only beating bad BCS teams goes out the window. And just for the record, I sure hope UT pulls the upset. The silence of Buckeye nation would be deafening after that one.

I'm rooting for UT Saturday, but deep down I've always wanted OSU to continue beating Cincy, Akron, KSU, Miami, OU, and UT. I've always hoped that BG would be the next (first in like a century) Ohio team to beat OSU.

With a free ride and tickets I'd still have to decline attending Tuledo/OSU at Cleveland Stadium. I'd be just as happy sitting in a lonely room with a broken TV.
But hey, if UT can pull it out, I'll be right there shovin' it in my favorite OSU fan's face.
Goooo Rockets. Beat those crazy buckeye freaks.
