Gotta agree. We ran the ball pretty well at Missouri so I'm not sure why we didn't try rushing the ball more. 11 rushing attempts? Disappointing....

Serious question: How did BG throw for 385 yards with no INTs and only score 10 points? Seems like you'd get more by accident. Seems like we should have gotten SOME by accident against OSU. I really thought you guys would win by two or three scores.

Yeah, missed opportunities in both halves. We could have easily taken a 17-0 lead into halftime, or at least 10-0.

I thought the playcalling was pretty shaky during most of the game, and it set us up to fail. Whenever you're setting yourself up for field goals instead of getting 7 points, you're putting yourself behind the 8-ball. Marshall did a good job up front of clogging the line and getting pressure, and they covered well downfield. However, we came right out of the gate throwing the ball and never deviated away from it. I hope things change for Boise because we're going to be rather predictable against a pretty good defense.

Once again, and I know I'm sounding like a broken record, we either need to recruit someone who can kick the damn ball, or we need to just give up kicking all together and treat anything inside the opponents 40 yard line as 4 down territory. We haven't had a reliable kicking game since Shaun.

I watched most of the first half, before I went out Saturday night, and I kept waiting for us to run the ball and we just never did. The gameplan was clearly that we felt we could move the ball against Marshall through the air, and obviously we really didn't have any problem doing just that. Yeah, I'd like to see a more balanced play selection as well, but it is VERY difficult to argue with the gameplan when you're able to move the ball at will most of the night. We threw 380+ yards and we really didn't have that great of success when we did try to run, and this with Marshall having to expect the pass most of the time. I mean if Geter was averaging 5 yards a pop I guess I'd have liked to see us run more, but he wasn't having much success when he did run, so I have no problem with throwing most of the time.

The problems were the same as they have been throughout most of the past few seasons. We don't have the type of playmakers that are necessary to put the ball in the endzone once we get close. Our QB isn't good enough to will us into the endzone like Harris or Omar were. Our OL isn't good enough to push forward into the endzone, and we don't have players at the WR or RB spots that are good enough to make plays on their own either.

As has been the case for too long now this team has not recruited the type of skill players that can make plays on their own, especially at the QB spot. When this team gets in the endzone it's truly a team effort. That's fine, but it's not how most great teams work. We don't have all MAC type skill players, and when our offense was great we were riddled with 'em. I'm hopeful that Clawson does a better job bringing in this type of talent than his predecessor.

BG wore us out with 7-10 yard curls, slants and out patterns. We allowed the completion but didn't give up much yardage after the catch. I think they had 2 receivers with double digit receptions and over 100 yards receiving. They also hit the middle in the short range as well. If I remember correctly the Falcons only went deep a couple of times and once was for a 50 yard TD. The dink and dunk game is a very effective strategy until the field is shortened inside the redzone. Those routes aren't as open when everyone is crowded in a 20 yard area. That's where the lack of a ground game hurt BG, IMO. They weren't able to punch it in when they got down there close.

I'm not sure the lack of a rushing attack was due to anything Marshall was doing up front. Regardless I just can't explain why they only rushed the ball 11 times against a defense that gave up 400 yards on the ground to Virginia Tech the week before. Fortunately for us they were one dimensional and allowed us to pin our ears back and bring pressure, especially in the 4th quarter.
