Wisconsin road trip thread

Sure, the spring game would make a nice road trip, but planning for the next game on the schedule is all right, too, isn't it?

Anyway, a group of us are already planning the trip. Maybe 7-10 of us, alums and not alike, ready to take in all Madison has to offer. If any of ya have started planning as well, have you learned anything as far as hotels to try to get into, or anything necessary to a kickass Labor Day weekend? Maybe we'll start to get a trickle of Wisky fans in to help us out. (God willing, they rank somewhere with the majority of Oklahoma and Memphis fans we've gotten to know! :D )

Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there for discussion... found one website which looks like it could include some good info... http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com

Here's to a great 2004 and an even better 2005!!!

I'm gonna start looking into this trip... sounds like fun! I haven't done a football road trip since OSU... Hmmmmmm....

I will be going for sure! Maybe over the summer some Wisconsin fans will get on and let us know where the tailgating spots are. The trip I'm waiting for will be Boise State though. Some friends and I are thinking about taking a train out to that one. I've never been out west or on a train so I think it would be kind of fun.

I will be organizing a Wisconsin trip as well.

Madison is a fantastic community. I've only been there once, but I liked it so much I didn't even want to come back home.

I encourage anyone on the fence about this to consider it. Madison is worth a visit if you haven't seen it.

I was at the last BG vs Wisconsin game and had a GREAT time. We stayed right downtown, next to the Capital Bldg, and walked the 1-2 miles to the game. You really don't need to tailgate as there are MANY tents etc, to buy beer, brats etc all around the stadium, and up and down the streets.
It is definitely worth making the trip if you can.

"don't need to tailgate"? Hmmm... I can see where this might be a plus, but I've got a feeling that tailgating here would be like hitting a tee shot at Augusta. If you're gonna make the trip, ya gotta do it right! :D

The main thing we're looking at now is a hotel. Game tickets probably go on sale in June/July, right? What was the name of the hotel downtown you stayed at? Something that's not too far of a hike from some nightlife, but not a killer drive to the stadium is preferred.

Hopefully with enough planning, and enough people feeling a bit down and out about missing the GMAC Bowl due to travel restraints, etc., we can get a HUGE following to Madison!

My fiancee and I are planning on making the trip up next year. It would be great to get as many BG fans as possible to go up there.

The Option man and the new outlaws that he will be acquiring late-winter of next year will be making the trip too. I'm also trying to talk the prospective Mrs. into Boise, but that is in the middle of her student teaching.

Madison will be loads of fun, one of the truly great gameday atmospheres, regardless of how overrated they are most years.

I have heard that Madison has an almost unmatched gameday experience and I was planning on making the trip, but my fiance got a call a couple weeks ago asking her to be in a wedding that weekend, so I won't be able to go. I'm hoping to make it to Boise and all of the MAC roadies next year.

dont expect wisconsin fans to be like oklahoma and memphis fans. wisconsin is full of assholes. i have been to madison for football games before. be prepared to have s**t thrown at you as soon as you get a cab. and you do have to take cabs to the stadium unless you can get a parking pass on e-bay. no hotels around camp randall

and their gameday parties suck. there was a bar across from camp randal who tried to have an imitation of hiney gate...they were playing billy joel and barry manilow as there music. lame.

I have heard similar stories from a Ohio State season ticket holder I know.

As for the "assholes", I think there might be a difference how they handle Ohio State fans and how they handle BG fans. I can't imagine the fine Oklahoma folks I've heard about and seen on here make Norman a hospitable environment for Texas and Nebraska fans (though I guess they play Texas at a neutral site). Either way, its not going to stop me from roadtrippin'!!!!
