Freddie was named "Wide Receiver of the Week" by the College Football Performance Awards (or something like that...link is on BGSUFalcons.com). They give awards based on straight stats, no people are involved in the selections. Tyler got honorable mention at QB.

Congrats guys!
Bowling Green's Freddie Barnes had 22 receptions for 278 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons' 36-35 victory at Kent State. That's one short of the NCAA record of 23 receptions in a game, shared by UNLV's Randy Gatewood (vs. Idaho in 1994) and Eastern Michigan's Tyler Jones (vs. Central Michigan last season). It was Barnes' fourth double-digit receptions game of the season and the third time he had at least 15 receptions. For the season, he's at 75 catches for 722 yards and five TDs. The 75 receptions are more than 14 teams.
I think the most amazing thing is that he is 30 catches beyond the rest of the pack.

The Athletic Department has created a website for Freddie at:

Bio, stats, photos, clips, etc. My favorite quote is "He is a playmaker and a great athlete. He’s the leading receiver in the country and I think there is a reason for that." – Chris Peterson, Boise State Head Coach

Freddie's scheduled to be on ESPN's First Take sometime in the next hour (before 1:45). At least when Jay Crawford pretends to love BG, he really does it up. Can't wait.

Freddie doesn't make the cut on First Take today. The BG ath. dept. says he already did the interview, so hopefully it will air in the coming days.

It appears they had a shortened show today due to showing a soccer game at 1:45, but that wasn't exactly unforseen news that cut them short. Instead, we get more than an hour and a half of regurgitated NFL minutiae from a couple of newspaper hacks, an interview with Adrian Peterson so he could pimp his DVD out today and Joe Buck's hair.

Thanks, Jay, for pushing your alma mater into your show. Douchebag.

Five most surprising players:
5. Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes: Never heard of this guy? Well, it's time to learn about him. Barnes has 75 catches - 28 more than anyone else in the country - for 722 yards and five touchdowns. Barnes is on pace for a 150-catch season, which would set an NCAA record. He caught 22 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 36-35 victory over Kent. Not bad for someone who caught just 40 passes for 355 yards last season.

Freddie is also ranked #14 on the Rivals WR Power Rankings. Way to go Freddie!

<sarcasmfont>Well, he has clearly been a fluke...only 10 catches for 160 and 2 TDs this week...take his scholarship away right now...<sarcasmfont>

Crazy how his 10 catches seems so "eh" after what he's done so far this season.

Great win today and glad to see the Sheehan to Barnes connection continue!

And he dropped about 4 more relatively easy catches. He's getting so many targets, I don't see any reason his production would drop off significantly the rest of the season. If we're throwing the ball 50-60 times a week, he should have 20ish chances a game. He can drop 5 a week and still go for some records.

He had 3 TD's. Do your homework, Sarcasmo. :-D

The first and the third were big time catches. Best description I can think is that they were "wide receiver" catches. The ones you expect your WR to make, but not all of them do. Coming back up over the defender to snag the third score was pretty.

Probably one of the most ho-hum 10 for 160 yard days you'll see. Kid's special.

I havent been able to watch any of the BG games after the Boise game this year due to copyright laws, but when I watched the ESPN interview with Freddie, they showed clips from what I assume was the Kent game. Three or four of them were maybe 8-10 yard catches that he broke for a much larger gain. Anyone know what Freddie's YAC is this year? I wouldn't be surprised if that's not top 10 in the nation as well.
