We lost to a USHL team.
Though they are very good, the USNDT plays in the USHL. That's where colleges recruit players. This team tonight has about 9 or 10 kids coming to CCHA teams with Michigan getting 4 or 5 and Notre Dame getting 3 or 4. Obviously we need better players as from what I could find, this team is 0-4 in the USHL. I guess tonight I realized the depths our program has sunk to and it's not pretty. This turn around is going to take longer than any of us wants and I really hope this is the bottom and things start looking up.

Yeah, it's gonna take a while to get things to where they should be. We are extremely young right now. Maybe losing to a USA U-18 team isn't that shocking when a good chunk of our own team are freshman. I think anyone predicting a top 6 or 7 finish are fooling themselves with wishful thinking. I'd love that finish as much as anyone but let's face it's simply not going to happen. We are gonna need sustained years of recruiting highly talented players that UM, Miami and ND are getting and filling our whole roster with them , not just a couple. Maybe we played sloppy or lazily cuz we were playing a supposed exhibition team but regardless, the team is simply rebuilding much like the men's basketball team will be this year.bgpuckster wrote:Though they are very good, the USNDT plays in the USHL. It's the U-17 team that plays a full USHL schedule. Here's the U-17 roster from the USHL's pointstreak page, http://www.pointstreak.com/stats/pro/te ... sonid=4429" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .The U-17's used to play in the NAHL but they jumped to the USHL this year and aren't having great results. The U-18 team plays an independent schedule against USHL and college teams but isn't technically in the USHL. These kids that BG played against tonight played a full NAHL schedule last year.
Although they do intermix the teams at times I believe. Sometimes you'll have U-18 players play some games on the U-17 and vise-versa.

If you look at the lineup in that link, you'll notice in the middle of it #1 and the number start to go up. I think all those kids were on this team tonight. I know Rust and Tinordi were as were several others. So is this the USHL team? It's confusing.DWhite21 wrote:It's the U-17 team that plays a full USHL schedule. Re: We lost to a USHL team.
Those names at the bottom of the roster are the kids that we faced tonight, they're all on the U-18 team. Notice how those kids like Rust, Tinordi and Merrill all have 0 games played on that team, because that roster is technically the U-17 team that competes full time in the USHL. They probably put those U-18 kids on the roster so they can possibly fill in at times. However, those kids at the bottom are 92's and play almost all of their games with the U-18 team/the team that we played tonight.bgpuckster wrote:If you look at the lineup in that link, you'll notice in the middle of it #1 and the number start to go up. Like I said, sometimes they interchange players so that's probably why the U-18 kids are also on the U-17 roster, even if they don't play many games for the team . Check out the U-17 roster and the U-18 roster on the NTDP website if you want to see more about it. It is kind of confusing but that's how they do it.

First U18 players can not taxi down, the U17 players can taxi up but its not that common.
*My impression, and ask you read the whole post before you start posting a response, if anyone so chooses.
for a most of the game I was utterly disgusted with this team.
they got it handed tonight and deserved every last bit of it. It was the few who mannaged to rally this team in the end, and I will get to that at the end of this post.
Our guys were not hustling to the puck, they were GIVING UP on plays and then having the gaul to not BACK CHECK. Many times our guys were not even finishing checks. Passing was sloppy, guys looked surprised and caught off guard, having guys on thier knee stick handle past them and get a shot, or pass off! Generating virtually no offense and on the run afraid of these guys, who as pointed out are the top 1% of USA hockey players, still Unacceptable...Over all poor play, over all the first time in 30+ years I have ever been ashamed of this team.
For our goalies, Hammond got picked apart by snipers, one soft goal on a PP for USA but the way the men were playing in front of him...how much was him, how much? Eno played outstanding, the guy has his grove on, but lets have the two split time next weekend and get another look.
To our guys credit, and to those the player leaders of this team, you lead by example and never quit on any shift, any play any chance, but you and you alone were to few, as it takes a team to win hockey games, not a handfull of individuals with guts and grit.
It seems the team was brought back from death by these men, and staring at a score board heavily slanted in the oppositions favor you revived your team, your character and commitment to team is commendable, to the resesated players you brought back with you, play the game like you did for most of the last 10 min, and your going never see me question your commitment to this team again, but in the first 50 min you had me questioning and I of all people will ride a 3 legged horse in the derby and say its fast if it has heart..
put this one behind you and lets see what youve got.

They can't? Here is the roster from last year's U-17 team, http://www.pointstreak.com/stats/pro/te ... sonid=3119" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Cam Fowler, AJ Treais, Sam Calabrese and a lot of other guys that played U-18 last year have games played for that team.MACMAN wrote:First U18 players can not taxi down, the U17 players can taxi up but its not that common.
Or are those stats from games that the U-18 team possibly played independently/non-league against NAHL teams? I don't follow the program closely enough to know.
Re: We lost to a USHL team.
Macman,
you are usually a little off with your posts but the one above is spot on. The team looked entirely too sloppy tonight, it was sickening. Our goalies had no chance. They had so much speed... It was unreal.
Here's to hoping the season will go better because our guys will actually try. They gave up on at least 17 plays that I counted. Sad.

Re: We lost to a USHL team.
I will clear up what I was saying, if your birthyear and birthdate make you 18 by X date you can not play down. Yes there are players who are and meet all age 17u that are on the team, that can and do play down when needed. IT is however not like a D1 prepschool that has a Varisty-prep team that can and will roll those guys down to the Varsity A team to get wins at will. Make sense now?DWhite21 wrote:They can't?
