New Lucas County Arena

Post by dforde »

Anybody catch a game last weekend at the new arena in Toledo? It is very nice. Will be fun to see college hockey there in November. Hope we can get lots of BGSU folks there for the game.

Haven't seen the inside yet but we bought 5 tickets for the BG-UM game.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

I went Sunday afternoon/evening to see the overtime game. Very nice arena, but it sure would be nice to have a scoreboard at center ice, rather than have to search thru the ribbon signs going around the arena to see the score, time remaining etc. The entry procedure is also a bit of a bottleneck with large crowds, getting thru security etc, and there were a number of people that missed the start of the game, but other than those items, I found the area to be
VERY well done.

Agreed on the entry procedure. It's a little goofy and also agree on the scoreboard but overall a very nice arena. We need to fill it with orange and brown on Nov. 21.

I hope they dont use those same chairbacks in our rink as its rehabed. They are three bolted together instead of indvidual, and any time a person moves it moves you around and they have considerable movement. They are also like riding in a coach, so close together front to back.
good hockey, bad seats...bad enough Ive figured out the places to sit and where I will never watch a game.

You can't do much worse than our chairbacks behind the officials. That's a pretty terrible spot to watch a game and the seats are more like torture devices.

I grew up in those seats...well when I was nt on the glass watching the game in the North end....they are by far better than what the WAlleye are offering, honestly.

There's no scoreboard over center ice because having to install an auxiliary system to raise and lower it would have put it over budget, plus the ceiling is relatively low due to the limited space they had to construct the thing. As for entering and leaving, I'm sure things will improve with time, I'm not gonna criticize ushers and security personnel the first few weeks of the arena being opened.

I think it's a wonderful place and is a great place to watch a game, hard to believe it's in Toledo but with that and 5/3 Field downtown, Toledo can boast it has the best major downtown setting for a somewhat minor city.

That is interesting, because it sure looks like there is a "place" for it in the roofing system........just no scoreboard. Isn't a scoreboard a rather IMPORTANT consideration in a building that is primarily an athletic arena? It seems that should have been moved up in the priorities to me.

The only bad things about DT toledo are still the same as always, its pain getting in to and out of, it would have been better if the arena had been built closer to 80-90 more in rossford or even on the old jeep site...but hey its a new facility and over all its nice, and looks like it will be good hockey

I don't think Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids has a center scoreboard either. In fact, if you look at the inside of Van Andel and Lucas County, they are remarkably similar, with Van Andel being a bit larger. Haven't been to Lucas County yet, but Van Andel is a really nice arena. Looking forward to the game on the 21st at Lucas County and I think my wife and I are going to try to get up there to see Brandon Svendsen (Elmira Jackals) or Kevin Schmidt (Wheeling Nailers) when they are in town.

If I remember correctly, I think I heard that the reason there is no center scoreboard is because of Arena Football kickoffs and the possibility of kickoffs hitting the board.

Of course, if Jerry Jones was the owner, they'd put one up and just pay a fine or something.
