Merry christmas time for some road trip stories

Post by bacn3 »

Merry Christmas to everyone!! I Hope everyone has made it back from the game and is safe and sound back home. What a game what a time and what a ride home can't believe we made it back but we did. Can't wait till the next road trip next year!! :D I'd love to hear some road trip stories from everyone. We made it to the middle of tenn before we had to get off and stay the night. Made it the rest of the way after that going as slow as 15mph at times really didn't think we would make it home till next year. And how about ODOT, way to get those roads clear for us, KT sucks at clearing the roads, big time!!!

Road trip was awesome. Left 11 tuesday night, got to Mobile about 7:30/8:00. spent the next four hours visiting every walmart we could find to get enough rain gear. Drank a good share of beers and enjoyed the best football game I have ever been to. Left the next morning at 8:30am and made it back to Lexington KY by 7:00. I understand your complaint about the roads. Has a 3 yr resident of Lexington I have come to the conclusion that this area is in serious denial about the fact that they are not a part of the deep south. Have yet to see a salt/plow truck drive through a subdivision. (At least they don't pile it in my driveway). It was a whirlwind of a trip. less then 48hrs, but will be a memory for a lifetime.

All in all, not a bad trip.

Got to New Orleans easily and despite some heavy traffic, made it to Mobile in good time.

The trip back started pretty well. Made incredible time in the car, but were delayed 2-plus hours waiting for the plan to arrive from Philly. Once we got to Philly, we saw a lot - a lot - of people obviously stuck there. Folks sleeping on the ground, etc. Got to baggage claim, which is usually pretty empty, even during the holidays, and it was jammed. About 40 folks were lined up at customer service and a lot of folks were just milling around. Turns out the baggage handlers called out sick.

God smiled on us, though. The carousel started and our bag was the 10th off the plane. I grabbed it and we jumped on the train and headed home.

As the great Lefty Grove often said ... "I'd rather be lucky than good."

I've got some stories

Post by pardonfan »

If it would not have been for the win, I am not sure this trip would have been worth all of the trouble.

We left on Monday at midnight. We got to our hotel around 1 pm Mobile time. Laid around and napped for a bit since we drove through the night and then headed downtown to eat, and check out the parade and pep rally. We were very tired so we headed back to the hotel and went to bed. Here is where the story gets gross. As I crawled into bed I found a condom on the floor between the bed and the nightstand. I guess someone with a master key comes in and 'uses' the room after it had been cleaned by the maids. Very sick..and needless to say we got a new room and we gotta free room.

On the trip home, as I posted earlier, was very long. Best roadtrip story I have is these two girls in front of us from Georgia obviously were not used to the snow. As we were traveling 5mph, the driver would stick here head out of the window and dump winshield washer fluid on the windshield. A few minutes later they skidded off into the bank!!

We also encountered an interesting southerner as a waiter at the IHOP in Birmingham who offered us 'auxillery backup syrup', as well as saying rhymes as he waited on us.

It was a very interesting few days.

This was an absolutely great trip until it was time to come home. The flight from Gulfport to Memphis Thursday afternoon was delayed by 3 hours but it didn't really matter since the flight from Memphis to Dayton was cancelled. Of course they didn't tell us it was cancelled until after we spent about 3 hours in the gate area. After a 2 hour wait in line to rebook I found out I wouldn't be able to get a flight into Dayton until Xmas day. I settled on flight going into Detroit on Xmas eve. A hotel and a hot shower sounded like a good idea but it was reported that all rooms were booked so I settled for an airport-issued inflatable mattress and a restless night of sleep with about a thousand other unfortunate souls. My brother was able to pick me up at the airport in Detroit at 6:30 pm Xmas eve and another brother took me to Dayton on Xmas day to get my luggage and car. One for two, snowbound car, no luggage. Went back to Dayton this morning and finally got my luggage.

Would I go thru it again to see a Falcon bowl victory? You better believe I would!

I had something similar happen to me one year when I was recruiting in Florida. I keyed into my room and two people were doing the nasty. I checked out of that hotel immediately.

Made it home...

without any problems at all. We left Charlotte on schedule (although I did overhear a young lady tell her father "Daddy, we're on our way. They're opening the airport for us.") That delay in New Orleans was easy for me since I had a good amount of time between flights.

I guess waiting in line at the baggage claim area was the worst part. It took 45 minutes to get our bags (and US Air baggage handlers wonder why they've been in bankruptcy twice - DON'T CALL IN SICK AND UPSET THE CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!).

I made mention about the entertainment in the lounge at the Charlotte airport on another thread. My god, was that lady drunk. What a show (although not for Noah, but  he found himself a girlfriend at the New Orleans aiirport  so he may not have noticed it had he been there).

On recommendation from "Bob & Tom", I always check between the mattress and box springs when I check into a hotel room. Never know what you will find.
