Home field troubles...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

1-3 at home so far in '09. We simply must get back to winning home games. I see the attendance was just over 10,000? Ouch. Still, it totally sucked to be at work again today and not at the game.

Hope the tailgate was good.

I think the main reason behind SUCH low attendance today was just it was freakin cold and windy.

The only thing the students have seen is a no win team 72% of the time at home these past 2 years--there's just no hype in classes to go to the games.

Mike, The "tailgate" consisted of about EIGHT Azzer's!...Yes, it was cold and windy (something unusual for BG?)... but I was surprised at how few of our group actually showed up too. Thanks to Bob Dupont, who'd already cooked up some stuff for us when we got there (I brought my brother in law along-1st BG game)... at least it saved me from having to "cook", but no place to put any extra food etc. other than back end of Bob's SUV.

Home field troubles have gone back to 2005. We lost our last 3 at home in 2005. In 06, the only teams we beat at home were Buffalo in 3OT and EMU thanks to a great 4th quarter defensive stand. In 07 we were one game from perfect at home and I thought we had ended that trend, but then 08 and 09 came around.

We desperately need to reverse that trend. From 01 to 04, I believe our only losses at home were 01 to Miami and 03 in the MAC championship game to Miami. We really need to re-establish dominance at the Doyt.

We lost because it was family weekend. It's the only reason.

I blame it on the artificial turf. We've sucked at home since we put that crap in....

Sorry, I couldn't make it yesterday. Had an opportunity that I didn't want to pass up. I even skipped the hockey game!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

attenance will only get worst as it gets colder and games being played during the work week. Be prepared for some less than 7500 crowds. When is the last time we won a big game at home with a big crowd? Minnesota?, Bosie St.?

There were a lot of factors that went into the poor attendance. A poor record at home, less than ideal weather, an early game time, a game time that conflicts with the OSU game (that students could probably watch in the warmth of their own dorm or apartment), and other family weekend events being scheduled at the same time could all play a factor. Despite all of that, the best way to get attendance up is to start winning at home. Once you start winning, the students will be more likely to come. Unless we win at Buffalo and Miami, I predict a really small crowd for the Akron game....5:30 on a Friday with probably chilly weather will not sound like fun to fair-weather students.

I blame it on the Sebo Center. Tear it down and bring back the metal bleachers!! Obviously, Parents Weekend must go as well.
