Roster Question

Post by Rollo83 »

Is there a limit on the amount of players you can have on the squad and dressed for games? The web site says we have 17 players on the roster, with one being redshirted while transferring in. That leaves 16 eligible players on the roster. Can we give out 16 scholarships?

We have four seniors on this year's squad and at least two verbals coming in next year that I know of.

Just trying to figure out if Curt can stll recruit more players for 2010-2011?

I believe that women's BB is allowed ONE more scholarship than the men's teams..but, that being said, I believe the new girl from the area, Simone Eli, is a 'walkon', so not on scholarship. As to the transfer, I don't know how they handle that in terms of scholarships.

BTW, I know that ONE girl was listed as a verbal...who's the other? :?:

Women's basketball is allowed 15 scholarships. Since Simone Eli is a preferred walk-on, that leaves one other player as a non-scholarship player. I'm not going to guess who that may be. Remember, last year both Tamika and Maggie were non-scholarship players.

The other verbal may be a player from Berlin Hiland. I've been reading JJ Huddle and it has been mentioned on there. I do not know anything for certain. We'll find out when the early signing period begins in a couple of weeks.

I can't wait until the exhibition next Wednesday.

IIRC, the S-T story this week said Allison Papenfus is also a preferred walk-on.

You mean we got possibly 2-3 preferred walk-on's on the roster? Very odd. Do we have a list of potential verbals for next year beyond Stein from Tiffin Columbian?

Not going to really argue with you on this, but it would seem that AP was to be one our TOP recruits this year...doubtful that she has "walkon" status, i.e. non-scholarship player. Only thing that would possibly change that was the fact that she WAS hurt for a major part of last season.... still....

I'm not going to argue with you either. ;-) But it stood out to me as well when I read she was a preferred walk-on. If that is correct, then I would have to say the injury has to be the reason.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Simone Eli was the only preferred walk-on among the 4 freshmen. My guess would be that Eli & Havel are not on scholarship for this year, and the other 15 are. Again, I'm just guessing.

Allison Papenfus signed a National Letter of Intent to attend BGSU and play basketball back in November of 2008. Preferred walkons do not sign such a letter. Therefore, Allison is on scholarship this season. She was definitely a top target for the BGSU program. I think everyone will be happy with the way she plays. She is definitely athletic and will help us in many ways.
