Well if we want to be ranked early in the season here is our chance.
If we would beat Chicago State in the NIT on Nov 13, more than likely we will face none other than Ohio State. Has anyone happen to notice what TOSU is ranked??? TOSU is ranked #3. Certainly a win over the school down south will propel us into the TOP 25. A close game will surely give us more votes than the #43 ranked team that we are today.

It doesn't matter where they start, it matters where they finish.

Re: WE WANT TO BE RANKED?
I'm not sold that we would go immediately to the top 25 with that win, given our history with the polls. It would certainly lay the groundwork.
IMO, what that win means in they eyes of the selection committee is far more important than what it means to the voters in either poll.

Re: WE WANT TO BE RANKED?
It would create more of a signature win which is seen more favorable by the committee.

Re: WE WANT TO BE RANKED?
Agreed with Drew and J4H, beating Ohio State, although it would undoubtedly help our poll numbers, would be even more important in terms of the selection committee at the end of the year. The past few years we haven't had a great bunch of "signature" wins, despite our great record, and last year in particular they used the SOS argument to screw us over.
When you look at the schedule, there aren't too many opportunities for big wins either, there's OSU, Vanderbilt, and maybe a few teams ranked from the 50-100 range. Beating OSU would be enormous.
