Bowl Banners For The Doyt!!!

Post by BGSU33 »

I was thinking about this after a trip to Vanderbilt last week (I'll get to this in a minute). We should have bowl banners made and displayed at BG! We are one of the more successful teams in the MAC, yet, we have nothing about our bowl history displayed in our own stadium. Here at Virginia, they have all the names of the bowls and the year competed in displayed inside the stadium. At Vanderbilt, where they have only been to three in their history, they have three huge banners hanging outside of their stadium for crying out loud. If Vandy is doing it for football, we should be doing it no doubt. Can you imagine walking into Anderson Arena without banners? Heck no! We need to push the envelope here and get these made and displayed. We've been to seven bowls and have won the last four consecutive. We should display these banners to recognize the past accomplishments of our coaches and players and show recruits what we're about when they step foot inside Doyt L. Perry Stadium. You should be able to see what bowls we've been to by walking into or around a stadium without having to surf the internet or look it up in a media guide.

Let's get the banners at the Doyt!!!

Miami has these, and they are cool. I've long thought we should do the same.

One of my favorite parts of our stadium is the fact that we list our "M.A.C." championships at the top of the west side.

Bowl banners would be tres cool.

I like it!

1991 California Bowl Champs
1992 Las Vegas Bowl Champs
2003 MotorCity Bowl Champs
2004 GMAC Bowl Champs

Let's not put them together. It may look like we only go bowling every 10 years.

This was something I thought would look cool, if they mounted them on the supports under the stadium. Not unlike the alumni flags on the light posts on campus. Adding banners for MAC titles and even the divisional "titles" would add to things.

When the SAC is finished, a new set of flag poles would look nice along the top edge of the building. Some kind of "tradition" needs to be crafted for that.

Exactly guys, this is what I am talking about. And schools that do this don't just do it for the bowls they win, they do it for all the bowls they've played in. I also think it's a great idea and one we should do. We really should try and get an idea like this into the hands of someone at BG. It's a project that wouldn't cost a fortune and would be a very nice touch to the stadium for more reasons than one.

Before the two divisions, I think it was pretty assumed that you went to a bowl if won the conference...thus the MAC Champs with years below the west press box. Clearly that doesn't cut it anymore since we didn't even win our division and came out with an impressive bowl victory.

I think the idea of banners for the doyt is great, but we need to get bigger. The bowl wins, and the team's/Omar's standings should be posted on billboards along 75 & 25 begining this summer. would be a great way to get people excited for next fall.

The billboard would be a great idea too, I just think that's a different topic than what we're talking about here. I know we have done billboards before, but I've never seen banners. The bowl banners would be a permanent fixture to our facility. Both ideas are good ones, I just really think BG should step up and do this.

Why we stopped with the billboards.........

Post by Falconboy »

I'll never know. :? We had them in 2003 I believe featuring Josh Harris all year. We need to get to back to getting some billboards along rte.25 and I-75 featuring Omar, Sharon or Pope or all three! :supz: Somebody tell the SID or whomever and see if this can't be done again for next year.

I think an electronic billboard along 75 is a good idea. Something that allows you to change the message easily could advertising not just football and basketball stuff, but all athletic events as well as plays, events, homecoming, parents weekend etc. But also have a side where you could post large pictures like that of Omar or the Professer of the month or something.

I'd be happy if they just finish the backside of the new scoreboard. Even if its just the same style wrap they put around the old board leading into last season.

The backside of the scoreboard would be nice, but you have to be going down Wooster to see that. I would like to see something by the interstate that thousands of people would see everyday.
