What helmet should the boys wear in '05?
I thought this was a germane question. I get the feeling we will see a new design in 2004. My nuch is based on:
1. The fact that the logo question was posted on bgsufalcons.com.
2. The fact that minihelmets were offered as a giveaway to folks who purchased GMAC Bowl tickets (mine just arrived; I have it on my desk at work now).
Also, feel free to post a ranking your choices. I can try to compile them.
I suspect many of us might be most comfortable with an option that few of us would choose as No. 1.
As for me: I think the new retail mark would look best. I'm not a trendy guy... I wouldn't have changed the helmets, I wouldn't have scrapped the brown uniforms and I wouldn't have picked the trendy new uinforms.
But I think the new retail mark would look best from the stands and on television. It's a very good design.
Failing that, I'd go back to the 1981-2003 design, I guess.

FWIW, I like the 1981-2003 design. Looks better from the stands and on TV. I also think the school should have a throwback day, a la the NFL, when the teams can wear alternate or throwback jerseys. I think it would be cool for the Falcons to pick one home game every year to wear the brown unis. Nifty marketing ploy, too.

Well, maybe they need to make the '04 Falcon logo a bit thicker so it stands out more.
As far as the minihelmet... all I know is that it arrived in the mail last week. I assumed it was because I bought four GMAC bowl tickets, but there was no explanation. Hell, maybe I have a secret admirer.
I also bought season tickets, but I can't believe it would arrive so late.

I'm partial to the '71-'75 no-logo helmet.

They would be crazy to put anything except the traditonal falcon on the helmet. It doesn't really matter in what detail, whether it is this year's version or something else, but we should stick with that. With all the recent publicity the program is getting, we need to be easily recognized, and if people are just starting to recognize the classic falcon as our only logo we shouldn't mess with it. When you see a blue hat with a yellow M, you automatically know what school it is, so the falcons shouldn't mess with the helmet logo for the same reason. Personally, I think the classic logo is much better than the new bird logo, I agree that that should only be on clothing or used as an alternate logo on the uniforms.
Maybe this is too radical, but how about we switch to white helmets? I think whatever logo we use, the orange and brown would show up a lot better on a white helmet. My son was looking over my shoulder last night as I was reading here and pointed to BGSU99's avatar and said that would look cool on our helmets. (It is the Falcon font BG with the new retail mark peeking out the side of it.) I thought that wasn't a half bad idea either. It identifies the school (BG) and the mascot. Again, on a white helmet though.

To all those people that like last year's helmets, the one with the white in the middle, when i watch a replay of the game all i see is the white part, i have a hard time seeing the actual falcon. Maybe its just my eyes, but either way we have to pick something and stay with it. Here's my ideal uniform
On the helmet have the 2004 logo, and on the unis, where the falcon was, replace it with the retooled falcon with the new BG font. I think that would look sharp.

We got a mini helmet in the mail too, and did NOT go to the GMAC Bowl. I had picked one up with the voucher at one of the football games, so was surprised to get another one in the mail. No idea why, unless they had a bunch left over and wanted to get rid of them.Schadenfreude wrote:Well, maybe they need to make the '04 Falcon logo a bit thicker so it stands out more.

I also agree that the Falcon Head lines need to be thicker to see it better on the helmet, but I DO NOT WANT THE NEW BIRD HEAD ON THE HELMETS. As we all discussed over and over, regarding the "new" logo, I told everyone that it was only a matter of time before the bird head took over the traditional logo. It's already happening. Don't get me wrong, the bird head logo is growing on me, I do like it, but I hate like hell losing our traditional logo since it's such a a unique one!! Just my $.02 fwiw.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Let me join you in thinking out loud.Warthog wrote:Maybe this is too radical, but how about we switch to white helmets?
White doesn't work for me... in part because it's a pretty common color. I know Ohio and Miami use it.
Honestly, I think the logo would stand out best if it were an orange logo on a brown helmet. A light color stands out more on a dark background than the other way round.
While I usually advocate for more brown... I also know that's a huge change. Our helmets have always been orange. I'd rather just get the jerseys back to the color they ought to be... and I know I'm in for a real long wait on this.
