Wayne State

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

From the game notes....

FOUR THINGS TO KNOW
• Prior to Saturday's opening tip, there will be a ring ceremony and banner unveiling to recognize the team's Mid-American Conference regular season championship in 2008-09.
• Bowling Green returns seven players, but just two starters, from last year's squad. The Falcons graduated their top three scorers from a year ago.
• Wayne State is an NCAA Division II program that returns four players who started at least 11 games from a team that went 12-15 overall a year ago, including a 10-12 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Wayne State has designated this contest as an exhibition game for their own team, something is allowed because they are an NCAA Division II program.
• Wayne State Head Coach David Greer is a 1983 Bowling Green graduate who played four years for the Falcons. He is BG's career assists leader with 768 and ranks seventh with an 81.2 career free-throw percentage.

Lets hope the team doesn't overlook playing a D-II program like a certain program up north did last night (and like a large state university in the central part of the state did a couple of years ago when they lost to the University of Findlay).

Can't wait for a year's full of excuses for them--"we're a young team" blah blah blah..they were an experienced team last year and that got them 7 wins.

As nice as the press box was, I'm loving being able to root for the Falcons now. Too bad I have to do so from Illinois.

BG opens it up to a 17 point lead at the half. OP with 12 points at the break and just one foul! We should give him a MAC championship ring before every game. :-D

We're simply much bigger than than them at basically every positon. The guards they on the floor before half ended were both under 6'0 and their pf was only 6'4 with their center being a spindly 6'7.

Good showing to start the season. In my opinion the pairing of Jakubowski, Marschall, Polk, Thomas, and Brown had the best, and most productive, chemistry in the game. I would love to see that be the starting 5!

I was also impressed with the freshmen Crawford and McElroy. Crawford's speed will be a big plus!

Go Falcons!

Yeah both freshman Crawford and McElroy did a great job. McElroy suprised me by hitting two 3 pointers. Nice job guys, and Polk was a beast out there. My fiance told me at the beginning of the game "Polk is HUGE!!!!" Its funny I remember when he was ALOT bigger but hes still freakin huge.
Im excited to see what BG can do this year and the Xavier game will definitly show how good we can do against some good opponents.

Lets win the MAC BG!
