I really was referring to the the selection comm. that is involved in that particular bowl team if an at large must be selected.

There are a few more things that go into consideration for an at-large bowl. First a team must have a 6-6 record. However no bowl can take a 6-6 team if a 7-5 team is still out there.

Bowls are not allowed to have in conference match-ups.

The only time past performance can be considered is between two 6-6 schools. If BG wins we have a very good shot at going bowling. Beat Toledo!

this looks to be a fairly realistic view of the great Bowl expanse

I may be reading too much into this, but the Headline on bgsufalcons.com reads:
"Falcons Host Toledo With Possible Bowl Berth on the Line" That article comes from Dave Meyer, Assistant Director for Athletic Communications. It may be wishful thinking, but I'm guessing the athletic dept. does not create a headline like that unless they have had some contact from bowl representatives. Just a thought.

A little birdie said that the FMB director told the band to be ready to go to DC.

The way I see it:

Mizzou vs. Kansas and Colorado State vs Wyoming are big games for opening up bowl spots. We need Mizzou and Colorado State to win.

UCONN can open up another spot if they lose their remaing two games against Syracause and South Florida.

Army can become bowl eligible with an upset of Navy.

UAB can become eligible with a win over UCF, but against they would be 6-6.

Hawaii is unlikely unless they can beat both Navy and Wisconsin.

Assuming with beat Toledo, we would be 7-5 and have a shot at a bowl before western/Kent. However I think with a win over Toledo we probably get one of the last two open spots for bowls, a loss and we are sitting at home.

Am I overlooking something?

Here is some information dealing with 7 win teams vs 6 win teams:
NCAA Division I Bylaw 30.9.2.1, has several provisions that attempt to ensure that teams with seven wins will receive preference for bowl bids:[4]
Bowl games that have a contract with a conference must select a team with at least seven wins if one is available.
Any bowl berths that become eligible when a conference fails to meet its contracted tie-ins must first be filled by any eligible 7-win teams before any remaining FBS 6–6 teams can be accommodated.
Additionally, conferences are not allowed to sign contingency agreements with bowl games that would allow 6–6 teams from their conferences to receive bowl berths at the expense of any potential team with seven or more wins. While this does not prevent conferences from signing contingency agreements that are triggered when a second conference is unable to provide enough eligible teams to fill all of its contracted berths, it does not allow a 6–6 team from the contingency conference access to a bowl game over a 7-win team from a third conference.

actually the thing with Duke has nothing to do with them playing two FCS teams, they lost to one of them (Richmond) so they only had 1 win against FCS competition, but that win was against NC Central, who is still in a transitional period or something like that, and they don't have enough scholarship players yet to count as a win toward bowl eligibility. Stupid scheduling by Duke (though I heard there was heavy pressure from the city trying to mend fences after the lacrosse rape gate...still stupid if you ask me, Duke is a private school so its not like they will have funding cut back or anything).

Side note: How in the world are they allowed to have a bowl game in Boise, Idaho? You might as well hold one in Cleveland, Ohio. It's debatable whether you'd freeze your butt off any faster.

Obviously you have never been to Boise, Idaho.

First, it's a lot better destination than Cleveland.

Second, there are no Browns in Boise.

Third, the temperature in Boise won't be as bad as you would think. The mountains gets the snow, not the city. A little chilly but actually a very nice place to play a game.

But I'm holding out for DC or at least someplace EAST of the Mississippi River.

Been to Boise, but not in winter. I just don't think we would travel well to Boise at all. I think we'd have a good fan contingency in DC, even if it is colder and snowier than BG in DC.

But ... none of this matters unless we BEAT TOLEDO!!
