Salmon....

Post by Falconboy »

Trying my hand at cooking salmon fillets for the first time. Bought some wild caught salmon from walmart and am baking them with some seasonings. Anyone got any recommendations for cooking this or any kind of fish?

Salmon is amazing when it's raw. Not a fan at all when it's cooked.

That's my $.02 :)

I love it pan seared in butter than rounded out with an acid [lime if my fav.]

Don't overcook. Fish is best when translucent on the inside.

One of the best salmon recipes I've made is VERY simple...

Take your salmon fillets and smear them with your favorite mustard (preferably not just yellow mustard, something with some punch and grit to it), then, sprinkle enough brown sugar over the mustard to coat it completely. Grill directly or on a soaked cedar plank until cooked all the way through.

The mustard and the brown sugar combine to make a really super glaze that compliments the salmon perfectly!

I'll try that one Grant, I have some Zatarains Creole mustard that should fill the bill. My boys really like it with Sweet Baby Rays off the grill.

That sounds really good actually. Will have to try that on my weber grill that's currently sitting at my friends place. Where would you get cedar planks for grilling though? Bass Pro or someplace like that?

They're pretty widely available in the summertime. Just look in any grilling section. Of course the grilling section of most major stores is pretty well gone this time of year.

I'm guessing Bass Pro or something like that would probably have them year round in their grilling area. Look in the same places you see the smoke wood chips, and other grilling items.

Home Depot frequently has that kind of stuff year round.
