We got it made. Pretty much everything broke our way the last two days, except for perhaps Wyoming and Connecticut winning. You look at the math, and see that there just aren't enough teams eligible for us to really break a sweat.

Army could throw a monkey wrench at us by upsetting Navy next week, but I seriously doubt that.

I think we are in without a problem. Before it's all said and done you'll probably see a 6-6 Sun Belt team getting a bid.

Which 6-6 teams are automatically in due to bowl tie ins?

At this point we need atleast 3 and at most 6 to not have automatic tie ins.

47 N Illinois 7.-.5
48 Auburn 7.-.5
49 Idaho 7.-.5
50 S Miss 7.-.5
51 Air Force 7.-.5
52 Kentucky 7.-.5
53 Arkansas 7.-.5
54 Oklahoma 7.-.5
55 Georgia 7.-.5
56 SMU 7.-.5
57 S. Carolina 7.-.5
58 Tennessee 7.-.5
59 Bowling Green 7.-.5
60 UCLA 6.-.6
61 Notre Dame 6.-.6
62 Louisiana-Monroe 6.-.6
63 Texas AnM 6.-.6
64 Marshall 6.-.6
65 LA Lafayette 6.-.6
66 FSU 6.-.6
67 Iowa State 6.-.6
68 Kansas St. 6.-.6 ( I think Kansas State is out for some reason but dont remember why)
69 Minnesota 6.-.6
70 Michigan St. 6.-.6
71 Wyoming 6.-.6
72 Connecticut 5.-.6
73 Army 5.-.6

Some of the good new for us tonight...

Kansas loses to Missouri. Jayhawks not bowl eligible.
Louisana Layette and Louisana Monroe both lose and go to 6-6...both behind BG in selection order.
UCLA losing to USC 14-0 in 4th quarter...Bruins will be 6-6...behing BG in selection order
Duke loses to Wake Forest...Blue Demons not bowl eligible.
Marshall loses to UTEP...Herd is 6-6...behing BG in selection order.
If you are right that is 4 teams and we need at most 6 to be in that group.

According to this, the only bowl-eligible teams left out will be UCLA, LA-Lafayette, and LA-Monroe, which are all 6-6 (Kansas State not eligible as not all of their wins qualify). Five teams from the MAC would be in.

I think the only thing that could knock out either us or NIU is if Hawaii beats Wisconsin next week. If Army wins, then I believe they would knock out Marshall from the Eagle Bowl (C-USA is Army's backup for that bowl). Also, I don't know if ND will accept a bowl bid if Weiss is fired.

Strange season - a few bounces of the ball the other way and there wouldn't have been enough bowl-eligible teams.

Why is NIU placed in a bowl here before BG? Both have the same overall records, BG had more confrence wins and one of NIUs wins was against a lower level division????? OH...and NIU lost to Terdedo!

NIU beat Purdue so they have one win over a BCS opponent. Yeah, it was Purdue, and yeah they were horrible in the first half of the season, but that's still one more win over a BCS opponent than us, even if we only got one chance and that was vs a Mizzou team that would have wiped the field with Purdue.

It's pretty cool to read the comments below the article, BG is getting some respect as a quality program :)

FWIW there were Pizza Bowl representatives at the game this past friday. I don't know how BG could get into that bowl, so I'm not sure why they were there, but they were.

My guess with that is that the GMAC Bowl gets first pick of MAC teams (Motor City Bowl picked first last year), so if CMU beats OU for the championship and the GMAC takes them, the Little Caesars folks could pick BG over OU, knowing that we traveled very well there in '03 and have national recognition with Barnes. OU would then go to the International Bowl, since they're guaranteed a bowl with the division title and the rest would fill out after that. Or maybe with the International Bowl in the mix, the Pizza Bowl gets third pick. But I'd bet the representatives were just getting a look at BG, figuring the GMAC would grab LeFevour and CMU.

I've been trying to find which order the GMAC, Pizza, and International bowls select MAC teams. If Pizza is third out of 3, why would they not take BG over Temple?

Similarly, why would it not make financial sense for both Pizza and Washington DC bowls to send BG to Pizza and Temple down to DC?

Don't get me wrong, any bowl game would be nice. :D

Tony: Temple's AD was on Philly radio saying, in a nutshell, that the Owls will likely be going to Toronto. He said the MAC ADs would have a teleconference today (Monday), during which he expected a lot of questions to be answered.

Thanks Karl....keep that fair and unbiased reporting coming out of Philadelphia. I'm not sure we would have "all our papers in order" to get to Toronto. Detroit and DC would be locks! Mobile for a 3rd time, Can't say for sure but I have my doubts.

And let it be said once again, there is no other way to finish a (regular) season than yelling at the top of your lungs.....
