We currently have 71 teams bowl eligible.... only two more teams can become eligible with wins in their final games.....Army and Hawaii

68 Bowl Spots
After slotting all the teams with their conference Tie ins it looks to be Four Openings:

Ceaser
Humanitarian
GMAC
Eagle Bank

Of course they would have to shift a few schools around to make sure of the Bowl Rules....No rematches or same conference.

Current Possible Replacement Teams

-Middle Tennesse State..... 9-3
-Bowling Green 7-5
-Northern Illinois 7-5
Of the two MAC schools......... one team will get auto bids if Army loses....last team standing will be one of the last few in. Not sure of the order the bowls get to pick in...

-Louisiana Monore 6-6
-Louisiana Lafayette 6-6
-UCLA 6-6
-Notre Dame 6-6

Assuming an Army Loss..... let's say the Eagle Bank Bowl takes Northern with their "high profile win" over Purdue. That would leave 3 spots remaining.... Middle Tennesse would be a lock....that leaves two....... BG's record out does both Notre Dame and UCLA, so you would think they were a lock (if that rule is true, I can see some bowl officials try to bend it, because both UCLA and Notre Dame will outdraw us at any venue besides in Ohio)...Notre Dame likely last one in.

The money wrench is Hawaii, if they upset Wisconsin then they sneak into the Hawaii Bowl and push one team out...most likely Notre Dame....If Army wins also then they knock one more team which could be BG or Northern.

Notre Dame.....sounds like the players are going to vote if they want to play in a bowl game....but the AD will certainly override that decision I would think. If not then UCLA should slot into a bowl.

CBS has us playing is Boise against Idaho.

6-6 schools that don't have an available conference affiliation to fill can't be picked before a 7-5 team. Assuming the PAC-10 and Big East's (I believe that's part of ND's deal) are full without those two, they can't be picked before us, regardless of what bowl officials want to do.

A coworker played football at ND confirmed the players are voting. He said overall they want to play in a bowl. He doesn't think the AD will say no to them if they vote yes.

He told me he has heard that ND is "hoping" for the Motor City Bowl.

This is only the opinion of one former player, but he is still pretty connected to the program.

I would love for Freddie to be able to torch ND's defense. :P

Well CW seems to be officially out at ND according to a NY Paper. Wonder what NFL team he'll be an OC for next season? (Cleveland?)

That Crennel experiment didn't go so well in Cleveland, doubt they'd being in Charlie and the FUPA Factory. Who knows, Mangini is batshit crazy.

Charlie is out.

FWIW, early reports are that the Irish players voted NOT to play in a bowl game.

Smells half like a protest, half like they don't want to wind-up in Detroit or elsewhere as a side-show.

I understand from my sources that the current possibilities are Little Ceasar's (Detroit), International (Toronto), or Humanitarian (Boise). EagleBank is not currently in the picture.

I dont think ND should even go bowling this year. Weis was fired and now an interm Coach has been appointed but with a firing right before the bowl season that should make them ineligible for a bowl game. Im not going by any rules but just common sense. Even thought ND has appointed an interm coach I dont feel they deserve a bowl. Just my opinion. But all I care about is BG getting into a bowl game. Go BG!!

CollegeFootballNews.com came out with updated bowl projections today. They have BG in Eagle Bank Bowl playing Marshall. Can they, and why would they, match us up with a team we already played? They have Northern Illinois playing Idaho in the Humanatarian Bowl. Why not have switch and have us play Idaho and NIU play Marshall?

Is that your anti-Irish bias showing?

If BG was offered a bowl bid last season, wouldn't you have been upset if they passed it up? (I know rumor was that some bowls inquired, but nothing officially decline IIRC). Wouldn't you have been outraged for the Seniors that they got robbed out of a game they deserve to play because the head coach and program are parting ways?

Just because they've decided to go another direction with their coach, shouldn't their seniors/players get another chance? One more game? I know I'd want to play another game if I could, regardless of what expectations the team failed to meet.

Just my two cents, but saying they should be barred from bowing doesn't seem right.

A bowl game is a reward for a successful season. If your own administration thinks your season was so unsuccessful they need to fire the head coach, then no, you shouldn't go to a bowl game. Of course, the NCAA's own definition of "successful" is "mediocre at worst", but that's another argument.

CFN = Complete Friggin' Nonsense

There is absolutely NO WAY BG faces Marshall in a bowl. Ain't gonna happen.

Temple would l-o-v-e to go to the Eagle Bank Bowl, so I suspect their AD is working the back channels to try to make that happen.
