Scoring error against BG in the UWM game

Post by BGSU33 »

A scoring error in BG's 90-83 loss to University of Wisconsin Milwaukee may have cost BG their second win of the season. The visitors were awarded two additional points late in the first half giving UW Milwaukee a 35-31 halftime lead.

Since the mistake was not caught before the next dead ball timeout, the points remained on the scoreboard and eventually part of the final score.

The game, which went into overtime with a score of 74-74, was greatly influenced by the scoring error as BG should have had a two-point lead as time expired. BG has consulted with MAC and additional scoring precautions will be added for the remainder of the season.

Didn't realize that was the rule. A UT's exhibition game a UT player was given credit for a three point shot from about two feet away. Amazing enough he made a layup much less getting three points for it. My daughter caught the error immediately as did several other fans around us- at half time other fans were talking about it as well. It was never changed until magically in the second half the point disappeared. Seems odd , given what you said here. When I played we always had an assistant who's job it was to watch the score, TOs, etc and make sure no errors were made. Of course when I was playing and somebody said "Shoot the rock" they meant shoot the rock.

FWIW

I am listening to the Dan Dakich show right now. A caller just asked him what he thought of this situation. He said he didn't hear about it, but said he would fire all the assistants for not knowing the score of the game. He said he would have went bezerk.
