Re: The ladies did alright last night
Dustin, time to let this go buddy. It frustrates me as well that we have so few students show up for the games like they do for the men or that we don't have a roaring standing student section every game like the men did in years past but what can you do. No need to tear down others for what they don't do. Just come to the games and support the team. We can't magically make more students care about our great women's basketball program.

BGSUE wrote:OK I thought we worked this standing up thing out last season. Just because some schools in the East, South, West & North have students who stand up for the whole game why do we copy them? A cookie cutter school didn't interest me way back when Anderson opened, it still doesn't. BGSU is unique. Let's keep it that way.Think of something new ---a positive cheer maybe. In replays of the games on BCSN the announcers always comment about people standing & not being able to call the game because they can't see through the people unlike some refs I know. When the coaches wave their arms up they want the volume increase. Some of the biggest benefactors of the program sit in their seat & watch the game. Others cheer from their seat, sometimes giving some advice to the refs---loudly. Everyone has a role---please don't tell me or insinuate that because I can project my voice better sitting than standing, I'm less of a supporter than anyone else. Or because you stand you're more important/bigger supporter. Just fill a seat or a space---no spots disguised as fans. Be a fan as best you can, but don't impede anyone else's enjoyment of the game. Stand @ the north end of the court & heckle the foul shooters first half & give body english to our women in the second half---to make the shot go in.![]()
If you can't hear me you're not listening & I've been told that I can be heard across the arena, on the radio & some people who work alot harder at basketball than me want noise of any kind. Be the 6th man as best you can.

Re: The ladies did alright last night
Students show up for our men's games? Since when? Ever since 2005-06 our student turnout at men's games has been downright pathetic. That is, unless there's been a massive change this year compared to last, and I don't know because obviously I haven't been able to make it to AA yet this year. I would hope that following a regular season MAC title that the students would be taking more interest in the men's team.Falconboy wrote:Dustin, time to let this go buddy. With the women, I think our fans might be a little jaded right now. Either that or they aren't turning out because they've come to the realization that our regular season success has virtually no bearing on our chances of getting to NCAA's, (Which very sadly, is the truth). Neither is a good excuse though.

Re: The ladies did alright last night
I'll take up Dustin's crusade....partially. There *are* different kinds of support. Simply walking through the doors is financial support. Cheering is an additional way to show support. Standing throughout the entire game is not necessarily needed if for no other reason than the people standing at AA sometimes appear to be just standing there.
I do buy in to the argument that AA is too quiet too often. I don't know if there is a point value that can go along with a raucous home crowd, but there has to be some correlation to adrenalin. To be fair: a lot of it has to do with the play of the home team, which apparently was not stellar the other night.

Hell Dustin,
Why don't you just sneak in with a ratchet and a crowbar, take out the seats, and then they won't have a chance to sit down.
Of course, the other point of view could be that standing doesn't equate to support. Afterall, some are considerate of those standing behind them that can't stand and don't want to block their view. Others might be tending young children and can't stand, or in some cases those children can't stand. OR....and this might be a real difficult concept for you to grasp, some people might have actually *gasp* paid money for those seats and might want to use them to sit in.
Usually, I might jump out of my seat or stand for big plays, but I'm not standing through the whole game....sorry Dustin. If that isn't good enough just feel free to let me know, and our family's season ticket dollars can go elsewhere.

Re: The ladies did alright last night
Let's please remember that Dustin's opinions are not necessarily those of the other "regulars" who stand during games. I go to every game I can, and I also go to several road games each season as well as every tournament game (MAC, NCAA, or NIT) that this program has played in for the last 3 years. I also stand up for the entire game for all of those games (except road games). With that being said, I think that those who don't want to stand, shouldn't! They paid their way in, and they are supporting this program by showing up. Also, some of the most vocal supporters of this program (like BGSue) sit down, and that's just fine. As long as she keeps showing up and supporting this team, I'm a happy person! Would I like to have a bigger student section at the average basketball game? Absolutely! But the way to get that is to reach out directly to students and get them in the door, not by attacking the fans who are already in the game. They'll stand up when it's important, when the team needs that extra encouragement. But let's not burn bridges inside this wonderful community that is Falcon Basketball.

NO! No! no! That is logical. It isn't allowed here.jg4242 wrote: Would I like to have a bigger student section at the average basketball game? Absolutely! The women's team averaged more attendance than the men did last year.

One of the reasons that the Izz-Zone thrives at MSU and the Cameron Crazies exist at Duke is because their arenas are set up is such a way that the students can stand up for the entire game and it doesn't interfere with us 50-somethings that couldn't stand up for the entire game if we wanted to. AA may not be conducive to raucous, standing and jumping students but the acoustics at AA does make 3000 sound like 6000 and arguably the best atmosphere in the MAC.
Many college BB arenas are set up with court side student bleachers that ring the arena. Does anyone know how seating at our new arena will be set up?

no there were plenty of people cheering them, like everyone but the 10 or so fans St. Francis had, I do agree that there was something hardly anybody was doing, and it was standing, I enjoyed thatDustinXtreme wrote:there was hardly anybody cheering the women on at all that night

You're not helping, either. Want better student support for games? Don't give s**t to the ones who do show up! Anyone who wants to support this team should be able to do it in the way they see fit, sitting or standing, WITHOUT catching crap from people like either of you. If I remember correctly the student/general admission seats/standing area in the Stroh will be behind one or both baskets. Maybe all this standing (and not really paying attention to the game) resulted in chair seats along both sidelines. Cause and Effect.
The athletic department and architects must have realized the real fans sit in chair seats.
