Eye-Black - Should NCAA Regulate?

Post by Redwingtom »

Okay, let me preface this by saying I don't think the NCAA should silence personal expression of their athletes when it comes to celebrations, etc. but I think it's high time for the NCAA to ban the excessive bible verses and area code shout-outs and other nonsense on the eye-black strips. It's starting to get out of hand IMHO. Am I the only one?

No.......I agree! Personally, I don't think all of the religious comments in press conferences are appropriate either, but certainly don't feel they should be banned.

Any form of censorship is bad news, especially when religion is involved. They're not hurting anybody, and if it offends you, that's a you problem.

I don't mind the Bible verses. I sometimes look them up. With that said, you either ban everything or allow everything.

Bible verses, area codes, girlfriends names, baby mamas names, "He Hate Me", and so on. I would say ban everything now so that it doesn't get out of hand.

Out of hand? It's a small strip of black goo with letters on it under a guy's eye...how out of hand can things get?

As long as it isn't profane I have no problem with it. To quote Eric Cartman, "What's the big f***ing deal?"

I am ok with it as long as it is not profane or derogatory towards a group of people or person. I also don't want to see it commercialized either.

I don't see anything wrong with putting personal messages on the eye-black as long as its not profane or offensive. It doesn't hurt the other team or anybody watching so let them do what they want. I personally think regulations are what's getting out of hand, not eye-black messages.

This is approximately 1,249th on my list of things to worry about concerning college football.

As others have said, profanity would be no good, nor would any type of paid sponsorship type scenario, for obvious reasons. But really, who cares? I personally think it's silly, but it certainly isn't bothering me or anyone else in any real way.
