FMB not traveling to Boise
FMB not traveling to Boise
the FMB has received an email saying that we are not meeting in the field house for practice so apparently that means that the FMB will not be going to Boise to support the football team. I hope that some of us will still find a way to go but it is unlikely. The FMB is meeting later today, so we'll see what the official reason why we're not going.

I wouldn't be happy about it either (I got to go to Las Vegas Bowl I in the band...it was awesome), but it could be the difference between breaking even or losing boatloads of cash on the game.

Re: FMB not traveling to Boise
Yeah, it would cost almost $250,000 to take the full band to Boise and let's face it - the university just can't afford it. It cost just under $200,000 for the last GMAC Bowl but the state of finances was better then. There is a possibility of us taking a pep band (of I assume no more than 60-70 people).
Dr. Hayward told me that Idaho is having problems getting their band there as well. It's an 8 hour drive and the roads are nearly impassible in the winter there. Also, she talked to the Idaho band director who said 22 of his members come from Alaska and getting them back would be almost $700 a piece for plane tickets. So, it appears that neither school will have their full band there. It really is unfortunate for both schools but there's not much you can do when your hands are tied.
Best we can do at this point is hope that at least a portion of the band can go to support the team. If we can't, hopefully some of us can make the cross-country trip and support them as "regular fans."
Either way, GO FALCONS!

Re: FMB not traveling to Boise
So we got the word today in marching band that there is enough money to send a pep band. We will be taking 60 people (59 players and 1 director). I am glad that we were able to find enough money to do so. It is great that some of us can be there to support the team. I highly encourage everyone who can to make the trip.

What's up fellas? UI marching band kid here. I just wanted to say I liked the thriller video, we actually did a MJ tribute this year too (very original I know). Whoever is at the H-bowl will get to see it. Also, even though we do have many people from AK, we will have a full band there to play for the game. I really hope I get to meet some BG band members. I guarantee you'll be intrigued with our band, especially the sousas. Here's to a great game with lots of awesome music!!

I second that statement. I hope it is a great game and there will be awesome music.
I'm sure we'll get to meet each other at some time during our stay. I see your school has an active chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. There are a couple brothers in our band (me being one of them). Of course, with the diminished ranks, I'm not sure how many will be attending. Do you have any Sinfonians in your band?

Once, always, long live bud!!! We have 26 members (give or take) and most of us are in the marching band. That is awesome that you guys have a chapter. You have to get as many as you can to go to Boise!!

We'll do our best. Right now as it stands, we're taking our leadership (section/squad leaders) as well as 4th and 5th year marchers. Right now, that means 2 of us (and at most, out of our 30 member chapter, we only have 3 in marching band). I'll be on the trip as well as one of our alumni.
