Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
I was not able to make the game, But from reading the box I have to ask Eno Started, and the game tight, why did we go Hammond?
Next its clear how teams play us and the direction more teams are taking in very recent years. This direction is smack into the goalies. If the CCHA is not going to make a stand to protect goalies, they need to drop the candy ass rules on fighting, and go to a two min roughing, twice and on the third your ejected.
Now couple that with the fact in the games where our goalies are getting battered, we have lost every game. We have yet to batter any goalies...I think it needs to become part of our game plan, for the single reason that it is EFFECTIVE. Get low, poke, slash and crash.

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
So we had a line brawl last night? That's cool, even though the DQ hurts.
I do remember the one we had against Western Michigan. To use MACMAN's verbiage, what a bunch of candy-assed babies they were. They were playing dirty practically the whole game, and we take the lead in the 3rd and they get even more desperate. After the empty netter, the way I remember it, it wasn't even two seconds after they dropped the puck at center ice that the gloves were off.
There are several youtube videos of that fight, one even has the fight, followed by the guys singing the alma mater postgame. Pretty nice juxtaposition.
As for the games this weekend, I'd like to point out that due to my failure to say anything bad about the team this week, we got swept. Looks like I'm going to have to call for an MSU sweep once the BG/MSU game thread gets posted. You can all thank me after we upset them.

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
I would assume the goalie switch came as a result of Nick Eno not controlling rebounds. Outside of Lake's first goal, the next two were shots that Nick should have controlled, with one coming right off of his glove, sitting in the crease. If i were the coach in that situation, I would have called a timeout, not pulled the goalie, but I would assume the hook came because Eno struggled with rebound control.

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
I am pretty disappointed with the games this weekend. This was a perfect opportunity to move forward in the standings and now we are tied with Western for last place. It seemed to me that we were chasing the puck more than controlling it for both games. I hope we can continue to move forward and get a win(s) against the Spartans this coming weekend.
I wasn't surprised to see the fight at the end of the game. Lake St. seemed to be trying to get us to scrum for much of both games. I agree the poor officiating probably contributed to the melee.

Oh, it's YOUR fault! And here I thought it was because Paula (http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hocke ... 32009.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) had picked us to finally win one!bgsufalcon24 wrote:As for the games this weekend, I'd like to point out that due to my failure to say anything bad about the team this week, we got swept. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
I posted my video from the student section to Photobucket, but it's a little skippy for me. Should I upload it to Youtube?

Also, Enoch Wu, who is a great photographer for the Sentinel, captured a few shots, including what sparked the fight with Shea.

thanks for video...I was sitting her viewing it and for life of me could not figure out why we had chairs behind the team benches...then I realized it was the box.
I hate LAke state, they have always been a physical and at times a cheap team...we used to beat the crap out of them...I want to get back to those days...so badly.

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
We just couldn't get it done this weekend, like Drew said. We've still got that same long road ahead of us.
I have plenty of photos from the fight, too, but there wasn't much to look at.

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
Eno started, the first goal a cpl mins into the game was our d leaving the back door open, Eno was being screened as well and by the time he saw the pass to the back door it was too late to slide over in time and LSSU had a half empty net!MACMAN wrote:I was not able to make the game, But from reading the box I have to ask Eno Started, and the game tight, why did we go Hammond?

Eno fell apart in the 2nd period allowing two easy back to back goals! Coach made a good call taking Eno out and putting in Hammond!
I AGREE 100%!!! LSSU crashed the net hard in both games and lots of other teams do the same thing, we had some good puck control in both games but very little net presence! Its not hard too loose when the other teams goalies can see the puck coming in from the blue line!
JST scores cuz he can get into that slot area and score some dirty goals, besides JST and Kai sometimes not many other falcons get into that slot, screen the goalie, dig out rebounds etc...
Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
Shea had no business going to the net that hard at that time with that score.pdt1081 wrote:That is exactly why the scrum at the end happened.BGDrew wrote: - The suspect officiating this weekend was noted by a CCHA official. Props to both coaches though for not mentioning this at all.
As for the DQ, complete bull. Shea had at least 2 LSSU players hanging on him and he was on his way to the ice well before he made contact. Add in the stick to Hammond's face earlier in the period and the cheap shot taken against Page well after the whistle near the end of the 1st and, well, when actual penalties aren't called you end up with games like the Western game a couple years ago....
Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
Disagree. I don't care if you're losing by 10. You don't tell a player to take shifts off or not give 100%. That's when you give up easy shots or get hurt.

What planet are you living on...do you think DW should have tossed a white towel on the ice and gone to the locker room? IVe seen 5 goals scored in the last 2 min of a hockey game, its not over untill its over and if guys aren't going hard, they need to clean out their lockers.BG84 wrote:Shea had no business going to the net that hard at that time with that score.pdt1081 wrote:That is exactly why the scrum at the end happened.BGDrew wrote: - The suspect officiating this weekend was noted by a CCHA official. That's hockey.
Everybody did their jobs.
Shea went to the net hard knowing what would happen if he collided with goalie.
Laker players stood up for their tender.
Our guys manned up and let off some steam.
Poor officiating throughout the game helped flame the fire, but Shea deverved the gate, and he knew it.

Re: Game Thread: Lake Superior vs. Bowling Green
No, DW should not have thown in the towel, but he sort of had, considering the 4th line was on the ice. Down 3 with 30 seconds to play it's maybe not over, but giving the other team a power play seals the deal.MACMAN wrote:What planet are you living on...do you think DW should have tossed a white towel on the ice and gone to the locker room?
