Dan Sexton called up
Re: Dan Sexton called up
There's a nice highlight video about the game on http://www.anaheimducks.com. Just hit play on the little recap video on the homepage. About midway through they show him score his two goals and then there is an interview with him towards the end. Great game for Dan...I got really excited just watching the highlight video and seeing his reactions to the goals.

Re: Dan Sexton called up
Here are some snippets from the recap,
"ANAHEIM – Thanks to a spark from the unlikeliest of sources, the Anaheim Ducks pulled off what was likely the most dramatic victory of their topsy-turvy season.
Rookie Dan Sexton, a 22-year-old playing in just his third NHL game, scored the first two goals of his career in the third period, setting the table for a 4-3 overtime victory over the Dallas Stars.
Sexton's two third period goals (the first two of his career) sparked the Ducks on their way to a dramatic overtime win.
Sexton's second goal was gargantuan for the Ducks, coming with just 1:02 left in regulation to tie the game 3-3. Riding the momentum of that goal, the Ducks won it when Saku Koivu scored off his own rebound with 46.5 seconds left in overtime.
"This is unbelievable,” Sexton said to a TV reporter immediately after the game, barely heard above the roar of the Honda Center crowd. "We never stopped fighting and never got down on ourselves. To get the result feels great. It was super exciting.”
No one was more exciting to watch than the 5-10, 170-pound Sexton, who fired a game-high nine shots and was all over the ice the entire night. His first goal at 6:10 into the third period came with the Ducks down 3-1 and unmistakably gave them new life. After Bobby Ryan deked to the net and lost the puck off his stick, Sexton was right there to flip it over a falling Marty Turco.
“I felt like I was dreaming,” Sexton said.
But the Ducks still had work to do and they did just that, controlling play over the rest of a period in which they outshot the Stars, 14-2. That work finally paid off when Sexton, seconds after peppering the net a couple more times, got the puck low in the right wing circle and wristed a shot that slid under Turco to tie the game.
"Take my coolest previous feeling and multiple it by 10, if not more," Sexton said. "That is what it was. I thought we were due to score, but once it actually happens, you’re in shock. To get another one after that, it just felt like a dream. It was unbelievable."
...and later:
"The first two games I played here we lost in a shootout," Sexton said of losses to Minnesota and Ottawa over the weekend. "To win the game in overtime here, it’s just great. Our team has been working hard. Like Coach said, we came out a little flat in the first period. But to be able to respond from the three-goal deficit, especially after losing the last two games in heartbreaking shootouts, it just says a lot about your team. It’s something we can really build on."
...and here's a note:
Dan Sexton scored his first two NHL goals (also first NHL point) in his third career NHL game. The last Duck to score their first two NHL goals in the same contest was Ryan Carter on Feb. 8, 2008 at New Jersey (2-0=2).

For one night, at least, Apple Valley, Minn.'s own Dan Sexton was a pretty mighty Duck. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Sexton, playing in just his third NHL game, scored a pair of third period goals -- including the tying tally with just 62 seconds left in regulation -- to help the Anaheim Ducks to a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win against the Dallas Stars at Honda Center on Tuesday night.
Sexton, 22, made an interesting journey to his big night. The former Bowling Green sniper started the season with Bakersfield of the ECHL. After tallying 26 points in 18 games, Sexton was assigned to Manitoba in the AHL. He barely got to look around Winnipeg, playing in just five games (posting three points), before getting a ticket to Anaheim due to Teemu Selanne's hand injury.
After his stunning performance against the Stars, Sexton -- who looks more like a high school senior than an NHL player -- was understandably jacked up.
"I'd say it was probably the coolest feeling," Sexton told the attending media. "Take my coolest previous feeling and multiply it by 10, if not more. That's what it was."
You've got to love that! And, you have to be pretty juiced for the kid.
Can he do it again? Can he keep a job in the NHL? Who knows!
But, on Tuesday night, he scored two really important goals for a struggling team. It'll be interesting to see if the Ducks can use the huge comeback win as a springboard for a hot run. Either way, nice job, Danny!

I just watched that game back, so happy for him, this could be spark that lights his NHL fire, like when Big Ben went to pitsburgh and due to injury go to play and they just went with him from there.
opportunity.

Fantastic!
Re: Dan Sexton called up
I just got my tickets for the Ducks vs. Jackets game in Columbus on Saturday. I wish I had a BG jersey to wear to the game to show my support. I think I might just have to be a Ducks fan for that game...

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Thanks a lot for the offer. Unfortunately, I live in Cincinnati so going up to BG is pretty much out of the question. I'll probably just end up wearing a BG shirt or hat.Falcon Fanatic wrote:

Dan has a goal and an assist tonight as the Ducks fall in OT, 3-2.
Kid is playing out of his head. Keep it up!
EDIT: Either I can't read or NHL.com was messing with me. Either way, good job Dan!!

Re: Dan Sexton called up
Unbelievable. Too bad there's no All-Star Weekend this year, a few more weeks like this and he might be bidding for a spot in the Young Stars game.
