Who's Ms. Venerable and can't the SID lose that adjective?
Or do we have to put up with Venerable Anderson Arena for the rest of its life?

Venerable -- commanding respect because of age, dignity, character or position; worthy of reverence; ancient, antiquated or archaic
Sounds about right to me, on all counts. It's ancient, it's antiquated, it's archaic, but it's been a great place to see a game for half a century. I like the use of the word venerable.

But I get what Hoopsfan is saying... Venerable does NOT have to be used EVERY time AA is mentioned...it does get a bit "old" (no pun intended)threestooges wrote:Venerable -- commanding respect because of age, dignity, character or position; worthy of reverence; ancient, antiquated or archaic

Fair enough. Not really a big deal either way, IMHO.Class of 61 wrote:But I get what Hoopsfan is saying... Venerable does NOT have to be used EVERY time AA is mentioned...it does get a bit "old" (no pun intended)

It's not a really big deal but it does lose it's effectiveness when "venerable" is used every time AA is mentioned. In this article http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2009/12 ... 92529.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, AA is mentioned 5 times and venerable is used before 4 of them.

Kind of like Lambeau Field or Roland Garros Stadium:
You can't JUST say either of those. "Frozen Tundra" and "Red Clay of" MUST preceed.

When I worked in sports radio, the first time I used the phrase "walk off" in reference to baseball there were a few angry callers. "Walk off" isn't a real term and all, yadda, yadda. So I made the point to use it every time it was applicable. Why? Because there are real things to be critical about in life and in sports. And those who decry minutiae deserve to be upset, IMHO.

So the year after next, we'll have to put up with the print guys calling it the "all new" Frack Arena? Yeah. That's what I like about idiot journalists. Pretty creative the lot.

We won't have to put up with anything because it's not required reading. You could choose to avoid it, if the writing is problematic...HoopsFan wrote:So the year after next, we'll have to put up with the print guys calling it the "all new" Frack Arena? Yeah. Absolutely. That's why the Falcons play in Memorial Hall and not Anderson Arena......BGFalconfromCincy wrote:We also wont have to put with it because its the Stroh Center, not Frack ArenaAyZiggy97 wrote:We won't have to put up with anything because it's not required reading. Now do remember that the only thing Frack has his name is the court, there is no name on the arena part, as of now its just Frack Court and Stroh CenterHoopsFan wrote:Absolutely. I believe he was talking about newspaper stories, not 90% of the drivel on here.AyZiggy97 wrote:We won't have to put up with anything because it's not required reading.
