I'm not sure he would allowed to coach at BGSU...as in, I don't think he ever finished his degree. I'm pretty sure you have to have a college degree to coach here. I might be wrong about this, but I don't think I am, as I discussed this topic with someone quite awhile ago.
Really? Is that even legal?
Why wouldn't it be? Degree requirements exist for all sorts of jobs.
Yeah, but there is not a college degree for coaching like say an accounting degree to be a CPA and a law degree to be a lawyer, etc.

Well we should probably hire a Japanese person anyway, since clearly there are no Japanese coaches right now in College hockey...but gee some of them may have multiple degrees...what to do, what to do, what to do.

 I think you misplaced this comment. The Non Sequitur thread is in the free-for-all section. Requiring UNIVERSITY employees in positions of management and prestige to have a degree is standard across all departments and universities across the country.

RWT, you are right, there isn't a coaching degree, but there are sport management degrees and similarly related business degrees which makes sense for college coaches. College coaches are expected to do more than just coach the athletes.

First: There should never be ANY doubt that education > hockey. What kind of example do we set for the student-athletes if the person we hire to be their leader/mentor doesn't have a college degree? This is NOT the NHL. This is a college hockey team. Hence why we should hire teachers (yes, coaches are teachers!) that can have some credibility with their students.

Second: Galley has his degree. So the point is moot.

Peace, and Merry Christmas!! :D

Awesome! I hope that ALL players that leave the team early come back/stay enrolled to finish their degree!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

In the wake of Garry leaving his position as coach in Nepean, his son (and future falcon) Wyatt has moved to the British Columbia Hockey League. I think this is a step up in competition and should help him better prepare for the college game.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.
