11 consecutive bowl losses for the MAC?

Post by BGSU33 »

Wow, I just watched the Ohio/Marshall game and afterwards in the studio they said the MAC had lost 11 consecutive bowl games. Man, I didn't realize it was that kind of drought. Come on BG, beat Idaho!!!

I found this a hard stat to believe, so I did the research. And, sure enough the OU loss today was the 11th Bowl loss in a row for the MAC. The last MAC victory in a bowl game was exactly 3 years ago!

Here are the details...

2009

Pizza Bowl
Marshall - 21
OU - 17

2008

GMAC
Tulsa - 45
Ball State - 13

International
Connecticut - 38
Buffalo - 20

Texas
Rice - 38
Western Michigan - 14

Independence
Louisiana Tech - 17
Northern Illinois - 10

Motor City
Florida Atlantic - 24
Central Michigan - 21

2007

Motor City
Purdue - 51
Central Michigan - 48

International
Rutgers - 52
Ball State - 30

GMAC
Tulsa - 63
BG - 7

2006

GMAC
Southern Mississippi - 28
Ohio - 7

International
Cincinnati - 27
Western Michigan - 24

The last MAC bowl victory was on December 26, 2006 as Central Michigan beat Middle Tennessee State 31-14 in the Motor City Bowl.

Pretty easy to believe. The MAC has been a dismal football conference for years. Throw in the fact that the addition of more bowls has gotten us even more undeserving teams into bowls and it adds up even quicker.

Let's hope we can put that streak to an end this year.

It sux the conf has been on the losing end 11 straight games.

I think Tempe and BG have excellent shots for wins...NIU vs South Fla could be tough and CMU/Troy can go either way.

Gotta end this streak now....

Temple is looking good right now to beat a PAC-10. Man I hope that BGSU doesn't have to play Temple next season because they have big and fast guys. How in the heck did Temple turn this thing around so fast?

Well, not so fast my friend, Temple has crapped the bed in the second half, and appear to be headed toward defeat barring a miraculous turn of events.

Yeah, you're right BGSUFalconfan. It's a shame that poor play calling has brought another MAC team down. It's seems to be an epidemic for some reason with these MAC coaches. It doesn't matter that the Star RB was hurt because the little guy #22 was doing just fine. That ridiculous screen call so close to the end zone sealed their fate in this one. I'm so tired of seeing the MAC lose these games on a national level. I'm hoping that BGSU can redeem the once greatness of the BG program and the MAC.

The best chance to break this losing streak, if it still is in place, is at the GMAC bowl. Central Michigan vs. Troy.

Which I guess would mean there is another "best chance" somewhere before the GMAC Bowl, then?

I hear there's a good chance tomorrow about 4:30 PM EST? I can see the BG players remembering that debacle two years ago...that can be some great motivation.

Though according to the chodesmoker calling the Kentucky hoops game tonight, the Bowling Green "Eagles" are going to be playing in the Humanitarian Bowl tomorrow.

F ESPN. Seriously.

I've had to listen to the twits at WJR in Detroit talk about how OU and Marshall are both from Ohio, that only three teams from Ohio are in bowl games. Then they specified the teams as OSU, OU, and UC, never mind that seconds earlier the sports girls was talking about Pizza Bowl teams being from the same state.

But gee whiz, all these MAC teams are getting so much extra practice time, surely we will see the results some day.

OU and Temple should have won their games. OU choked the game away. Temple did even worse.
