I agree as well...The MCB was great but it felt like another game. The GMAC Bowl or another bowl not within reasonable driving distance would feel more like a bowl. Those of you that were in Mobile have made it very clear it was a great time...and I've heard other teams' fans rave about Mobile as well.Falcon Commander wrote:VERY well put . . . It's great we have had opportunity to experience several different Bowls (including the Rasin, Vegas, etc, for us older birds).
I hope we get back to Mobile again, sometime soon.
MCB to get bigger payout, move up in pecking order

Having experienced the Rose Bowl and GMAC Bowl as well as having attended a Gator Bowl and Motor City Bowl - there is definitely a difference in experiences.
I never felt the 2003 team got a "bowl" experience when they went to the MCB. Sure there was the photo op at the local hospital, but what else did they do other than play the game?
In Mobile, they had an experience. The bowling tournament may have sounded corny to some, but the players enjoyed it. They had an oppoortunity visit a local hospital and see the kids. But they also had a luncheon and tour of the USS Alabama in addition to the Mardi Gras parade and pep rallies. They got a better experience (in my opinion).
I realize the MCB was the first to dance with MAC and the MAC needs to maintain an affiliation with them for the Championship team, but I would rather the players get a trip for the bowl experience than having to play in Detroit. I realize it is better for our fan base that we go to Detroit, but the players have earned the opportunity for the game.
I'm really hoping this Toronto game takes off next year and we get selected for the inaugural game!

I think the MCB and the MAC should have a long relationship. It's good and will get better. Agreed that it can get better, in particular with making it a "bowl experience" rather than pretty much the game only. There's no reason that the MCB couldn't hold a bowling tournament or take the teams on a tour of the Ford Museum and/or the Automotive Hall of Fame - I bet the guys would l-o-v-e the cars! The weather is usually rough, but there's plenty to do. I think the MCB folks just need to do a little more planning. Of course, having the game so close to Christmas makes it tough to squeeze stuff in.

87,
I think you hit the one major problem with the MCB - the close proximity to Christmas. BG fans (most) will drive up the day of the game if they can. Yeah, they may stay overnight AFTER the game, but the Christmas holiday will stop many BG fans being able to "experience" the Motor City Bowl.
And that is a "Catch-22" as many BG fans were not able to experience what we did at the GMAC Bowl due to Christmas holiday.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
