Week 13 Early Notes

Post by BGDrew »

Just a couple notes as we get a short week:

- Congratulations to Brennan Vargas for his first career goal/point. Tonight's game was Brennan's 21st of his career and 9th of the season. How big is it to get goals from your energy line?
- When BG scores at least 3 goals we're 3-1-2 (2 shootout wins).
- Homecoming for Boydy next weekend. Boyd's dad (Don) was a goaltender at BG from '71-'74 and is the Director of Hockey Operations and Player Personnel for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
- Speaking of #26, Josh has scored 2 out of the 3 Falcon game winning goals.*
- The Falcons are 8 points away from hosting a first round series. If the Falcons were going to pick a time to start a streak, the next 4 weeks would be an excellent place to start. BG will face the 9th place Buckeyes, the 7th place Wildcats, their 11th place breathern Broncos, and the surprise of the year 10th place Wolverines.

I should be able to get a credential for the games next weekend. Would a Liveblog from Columbus and post-game presser coverage be worth it for me to drive down? Please let me know if you enjoy that and want to see it next weekend.

*Edited: Tommy Dee has 1 GWG.

Your live blog and especially your post game interviews are GREATLY appreciated!!!! You're doing an awesome job covering the hockey team!!! Keep up the great work!!

GO FALCONS!!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP the schmucks!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

If I can wrestle the laptop away from the 13-year old I would love to be able to follow the liveblog from Columbus.

Keep up the great work, Drew!
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

Having done stats for the team at the Schott, you may want to take some binoculars with you. That press box is wayyyyy up there.

Can't be any worse than the press box at Nationwide Arena. You'll be watching the game, glance right above you and a guy is walking in the catwalk.

They should arrive in BG around 1500.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

Bill got it. There won't be a presser this week due to the short week. However, if schedules are able to line up I should get a few interviews done before Friday.

I've been on the catwalk at the Schott when we took a tour during high school. But, from the press box I was having trouble making out the numbers on the OSU jerseys.

I got the OK from OSU and the OK from work so both games will get Liveblog's this weekend. Friday may be a little after the game starts as I don't get off work until 4:30 so I'll be cutting it close.

Also, Thursday morning I'll be interviewing both Willy and Boydy so get your questions in before Thursday morning and it might just get asked.

Here are the interviews I did today:

Boyd: Click to listen
Coach Williams: Click to listen

Unbeknownst to me the battery was dying on my audio recorder so a bit of both interviews was cut off. Willy was answering his last question. I had asked Boyd what his favorite rink to play in and he said Michigan due to the environment it poses to players.

Thanks to Josh Boyd, Dennis Williams, and SID Ryan Gasser for giving me time out of their day to talk to them.
