Guys dont be stupid.. The first chance clawson gets to jump to another job hes gone. This is a stepping stone for him and if he wins he will be gone. Fordham , richmond, tennesee , Bowling green ... His salary here is very low compared to other jobs and hes a climber...

Coach was at Fordham for 5 years...then Richmond for 4 years. It isn't like he up and left after a couple years at either place. Was Tennessee a stepping stone?

This coach wants to be a David vs Goliath kind of football coach. He and his wife I'm sure have had a hard time with the move that he made and was on the verge of tears during the press conference they had when he was named head coach. He seems like he wants to dominate the conference...which I'm sure after a handful of upset wins and mac championships he will leave if he feels money is a bigger issue...Lets be honest not all coaches are in it for the money...are many of them? I think so. This is on a different level but my Uncle Jack has been an extremely successful coach on the High school level for 50 plus years and has had numerous offers to coach at the next level for almost as many years. However the town that he lives in wants him there and he wants to be there. He has a statue commemorating his life as a coach and easily could have gone elsewhere for 4 times the pay.

Is your uncle Jon Voight!?!? If so, I don't see things ending well in that small Texas town with the new QB filling in for the injured one.

Larry Kehres is a guy who's stayed put for many years despite bigger offers. Of course, playing for the Div 3 national title every year is a good reason to stay put.

I would say it was actually, it just didn't workout.

If Coach Clawson gets a better offer somewhere I don't expect him to stay. If he does stay than great. With that being said I don't think he is going get any serious offers after a 7-6 season.

The OC position at Tennessee was unofficially supposed to be a stepping stone to replace Phil Fulmer after a few years. Of course, Fulmer wound up fired at the end of the season, and we all pretty much know how it shook out from there. But there was supposedly an understanding that as long as things worked out, when Fulmer did eventually retire, the job would have basically been Clawson's to take or turn down.

But, as far as being in Knoxville, no, that was not considered a stepping stone. The generally accepted story is that Clawson moved his family to Knoxville thinking it would be the last move of his career.

WTF is your problem...you asked the question once...I think it's pretty clear that the answer is "none of your business".....

It's not like a person HAS to work in college athletics to have an opinion about our AD, right?

Guys im not being negative. Just because you dont want something to happen doesnt meant it wont. There is a difference between wanting Clawson to stay and actually beleiving he will if the Big 10, ACC, SEC, Big East, Mountain West come calling. Im simply saying what WILL happen if he wins and gets a better offer. Im not wishing for him to leave , just telling it like it is//

Saint Urban got an offer after LOSING 3 of his last 4 games.

Auburn hired a guy from Iowa State who was 5-19 after two seasons in Ames.

In big time athletics, you just never know. With the way these athletic directors are tossing money at head coaches and then firing them after a year or two, you just never know. BTW - I am wiling to put my hat in the ring for the HC at USC. They are more than welcome to sign me to a 5-year, $2 million contract and fire me after only one year (I think I could enjoy doing nothing the final four years of my contract and pull in the $8 million).
