MI DB verbals to BG...

Post by Flipper »

Aaron Foster...** (just under *** ) on Rivals. When you look at ESPN, Rivals and Scout we have 7 guys ranked with *** with one or more of those services . On Rivals we have three guys with *** and eight that are a hair under ***. Historically, that's a pretty good haul for us. Then again...a number of the *** guys we've had in the past have been disappointments. FWIW, Fredie Barnes and Tyler Sheehan were both ** guys...

Oh...when I say DB I mean defensive back, not douchebag....

Seems like we're hitting Mich. harder than normal this year....hope it's because they're having a banner year Sr. class.

I've noticed that BG has been bringing in quite a few Michigan kids this year. Most of the MAC have not been getting commits from Michigan kids. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing for BG. Maybe the rest of the MAC is missing out and BG is finding some hidden gems. If you ask me, some of them seem like pretty good recruits so I am not sure why most of the MAC has shied away from Michigan this year.

MSU and Iowa were very big in MI this year...UM not as much although they did get the top QB in Devin Gardner.

Looks like a nice haul for the Rockettes...how do the academics look?

The answer, I believe, on the MI kids is that we beat the rest of the MAC on a lot of very good "high" MAC type kids in that state. That simple. Coach Hunter et al are very well connected there and we got very good players- particularly defensive players- coming in out of there. We also got a number of commits very early there and locked kids up who really liked BG. Then others offered etc.

This may be posted elsewhere but add Maple Heights OH OL Dominic Fluellen. I may have spelling issues there. OG/C type guy who weighs in at 270 and was offered by several MAC schools. Tough NE Ohio kid.

Go Falcons!

FF1... Thanks for the update on Fluellen...was wondering what has happened to the old NE Ohio "pipeline"... other than Elyria kid, this might be our only other NE O. kid..I'll have to look thru the recruiting sites to verify or not on that... Thought we were also very high on the kid from U.School, but have heard nothing...based on Clawson's statement," we're bringing in a whole football team, plus 4", I'm assuming he hopes to sign 26 kids...and we're getting close to that now.

I guess it depends on your perspective. We've got 25 or 26 guys in this class, but only 22 initials. There will have to be 3 or 4 that are either greyshirts or something else, which could encompass academic casualties. The key is that we have 8 kids already enrolled and in classes, so we know those 8 are fine in the academics (of course they have to keep the grades up to still be eligible in the fall, just like any college student-athlete). Those include former 4 star WR and Illinois transfer Cordale Scott, another 4 star recruit in this class, and three of the 3 star recruits. That does leave six more 3 star commits and several others.

Of course I remember fans from other schools trying to claim last year that Eric Page was not going to be eligible. Not only was he eligible, but he played way beyond his 2 star ranking by the recruiting services.

The point is, if a kid is still in high school until May/June there is no guarantee he will be eligible in August when it's time to go to college (or July if they do the summer thing that is common these days), regardless of his self-reported GPA on the recruiting sites.

I'm not going to dispute that, but if that is the case then you are saying that the number of talented prospects in Michigan this year is down, because after BG got their MI commits there was no one left for the rest of the MAC. The MAC, in general, will get quite a few commits from MI kids. More than what one school could fill.

I cannot verify most MAC schools, but I know that both Miami University and Toledo offered very few kids from Michigan this year. Don't know why for MU, but I know Toledo's is because of a lack of contacts within this new staff for the state of Michigan. That is something that will probably take them a bit to develop the relationships. It could have hurt Toledo this year because of it, I don't know. But I do know they did a pretty good job in the state of Ohio to make up for it.
