Thanks for the links. Nice to see a big man coming in that can shoot and also has some of the footwork to post moves down low.

I like Black defensively but he doesn't seem aggressive enough going to the basket sometimes...a 6'9 guy should be throwing it down sometimes. Then again, it is high school and that kind of stuff can be worked on. Overall good moves down low and a nice shooting touch.

It really doesn't take you long to figure that out either. Its obvious Cameron's school isn't in a powerhouse Div. 1 league. When he gets here he will need some major adjustment time to get used to D1 college basketball. That said, he does have a very nice shooting touch and nice footwork. It will be interesting to see if Orr goes after another PF/C recruit with Calhoun possibly being a total wash. Our front court next year has huge question marks.

My initial thought when watching the highlights was that I have no idea how you can actually scout players of his size in HS. He was going against slow moving players that were a good 3-4 inches shorter than him in most of the plays in that highlight tape. It was great to see him getting so many easy looks, but I just have no idea how coaches project those guys...he's just so much taller than the competition. I guess that's why I'm just a fan.

I will say it was nice to see him step out and hit some jumpers rather than just relying on layins.

They do it the same way coaches evaluate football players who are going up against less gifted, smaller players. You don't look at the result so much as the skill set involved with getting the result. In football...who cares if a DT can run over a guy 75lbs lighter than him to make a tackle. What you look for is how he moves in running the kid over. What's his pad level like...how did he move his feet...did he follow the ball continuously or did he have to stop and find it....etc...etc..

In basketball I guess I'd look at how well a big moves laterally...how solid is he postionally? IS he getting rebounds based on his height and/or athleticism, or does he box people out. Stuff like that...who cares if he gets 20 points a game or 10 rebounds a night. If he doesn't display the skills needed to develop that kind of a game at the next level, it's pointless.

Gotta agree with most of the posts already. 2 things stood out for me on black. That free throw line jumper was a nice shot and if he can do that all around the key he would be good. He also seemed athletic enough making some moves here and there to get some shots. His floor is Marc Larson I would say. He just does not seem really that explosively athletic but he will be able to rebound and score some, probably away from the basket a little bit. He won't be a liability on D and he will be a great help defender cleaning up peoples trash at times. At 6-9 he does not dunk once in the entire highlight reel. Thats astonishing for how well he seems to be able to run the floor and how quick his feet seem.

Gotta believe any Division I basketball recruit is evaluated more heavily in the summer during AAU season than during HS season. The talent that kids potentially face in the summer is of higher quality regardless of HS league or division. If the kids is good he's on a good team and good teams play in the better tournaments against other good teams.

Greg Christopher mentioned on one the AD segments that other than football, most of our coaches do their recruiting through the AAU events.

Sealy gets 28 for Brookhaven vs the three to four D 1 (two OSU recruits) prospects at Northland. Brookhaven soundly beaten as Northland is one of the best teams in the country. But Sealy can score and is athletic.

Black's basketball skills look well developed. For 6-9, he has great handles, a nice shot, good timing, great instincts, and is VERY well coordinated. He runs well, BUT, he doesn't look like much of leaper. He obviously is already better than Larson and could start as a freshman. He'll come in with more all-around skill than Polk did as a freshman, particularly on offense. I think he'll be at the same level as Len Matela was as a freshman.
