Just to set the record straight, Mark BEIER broadcasts the UT men's games, not the women's - which should earn him sympathy, not scorn. I believe it's Rich Hofer who calls the women's games.

Kudos to the Falcon fans for helping create today's great atmosphere.

Thanks for clarifying but regardless his comments as a broadcaster were uncalled for. I have known, not personally, but known numerous broadcasters fired for their comments and scrutinizing of the officials. His comments were uncalled for. He was complaining about every turnover and foul against Toledo and begging for more calls against BG. I am sure he does the same against other opponents UT plays. I always listen to our student announcers but in this rivalry game I wanted to listen to more of a 'professional' and he was far from professional.

gmartin wrote:I am listening to the game through the Rockets Radio Broadcast just to see a perspective on their point of view. What are these guys smoking?????

They say BG is just an average FT shooting team. Hello, we are in the top 6 in the nation

Also said BG is not very deep on the bench. Last I noticed we emptied our bench and played 15 players each of the last 6 games.

I have listened to this guy before, not sure of his name, I think its Mark Breir, or something, but he must be on crack because he is CLUELESS!!!

On a side note, he said about 5,500 at the game. If that is indeed correct then kudos to the fans showing up to support this game.

GO BG!!!!!

As noted elsewhere it was not Byer. This guy was awful but let's set the record straight- he stated on more than one occasion that BG led the conference in free throw shooting and that Toledo could ill afford fouling them, that their bench was outplaying UT's (including specific scoring stats on two occasions that supported that claim) and that the refs were missing calls both ways and seemed to be trying to referee by committee. His homerisms near the end were embarrassing and he seemed to know very little aobut either team and I hope someone addresses that with him but lets be fair-he made it VERY clear that BG was an excellent free throw shooting team and he went out of his way to note the bench disparity.

That having been said BG played a tough game and will be a force to be reckoned with down the road. The game was probably the most exciting in the MAC this year. The rivalry has been one sided for a long time with one team or the other dominating for stretches of years. A closely matched rivalry will be great for the MAC and great for both programs. Good luck the rest of the way, Falcons.

Just wonder if this loss will impact our seeding at the MAC Tourney? Toledo now wins the tie breaker with us base on head-to-head and we would have to play in the same side of the bracket as #2 and #3 seeds.

A lot could happen the next 4 weeks and it might not matter...but then again this group hasn't won a MAC Tournament Championship or gone to the NCAAs. They still have something to prove to themsleves this postseason.

For the women's tournament seeding is based on division finish, not overall finish, if we win the east again we'll be on the same side as the west #2

So if we are the #1 in the east and Toldeo is #1 in west and they own the tiebracker on us...it doesn't matter except for who is the home team in the championship game?

Pretty much- don't see either team faltering the rest of the way enough to make that scenario not happen. At the tournament on the other hand, who knows? If both win out I guess Toledo would be the MAC champs based on head to head or would it be a tie?

Would probably be a tie, with everyone knowing who won the regular season matchup, again basically doesnt matter since the tournament does division seeding, obviously if it was overall seeding and both finished in a tie at 15-1 Toledo would get the top seed with the tiebreaker

I'm one of those oddities who prefer winning the MAC to having the privilige of getting your butt kicked by a #4 seed in your first NCAA game. The whole notion of a tournament is inimical to everything good about sports. Play your butt off all year, win 25 games and get aced out of the tournament by an 11-17 team when your top player sprains her ankle in the first minute. I'll take a MAC championship. Well, I'd take both and I'd be lieing if I said itsnot exciting to make the NCAAs but realistically , it will only lower your winning percentage and raise your loss total.

Don't look now but Akron is playing very well (they beat Eastern Michigan today) and they and Kent State are only one game behind us. We have to play at Akron and they played us very tough at AA as I recall. Don't count your chickens....

Our Falcons have already hatched :D - granted they're still growing throughout the season
Akron wasn't really that tough at AA. We beat them by 12 and we've grown a lot since then - turnovers are down (except for today), 2nd chance points are up, free-throw shooting is still great, points off TOs are up, bench points are still good. We're improving just about every game!

It would matter in case of the need for an automatic WNIT berth. Everyone wants to win 3 games in Cleveland and make it moot, obviously. But they at least had that to fall back on last season. Now, Toledo has the inside track. Although there is a long way to go. Now BG has to finish with 1 fewer loss than UT....

Hope that doesn't happen but we have a propensity to play poorly against bad teams like Ball State and Buffalo, esp on the road. We're tough at home.
