Just win, baby.
Again, I don't even know why you follow the team with that kind of an attitude. If we never had a shot at an at large in the first place, why even watch any of the regular season games? After all, if we win or lose, it don't mean jack, according to the way you think.
I guess on this issue I've a bit of a peregrinner-esque streak. You can't count your chickens before they hatch. We haven't lost to a team outside of the RPI top 70 all year, our record is good, and if we win out the rest of the way before the MACC it'll be 24-5. We've got a great quality win against Vandy and several other decent wins as well, most notably Eastern Michigan. Count those up, plus an RPI in the lower to mid 30s, and the committee might still give us the shaft, but several other teams got in with such credentials last year, so you can't count it out.
Odd post for a fan of a team the quality of BG's. Hell, I'm still following UT's men-why follow BG's men- you KNOW they got no chance at an at-large. You follow them for all the reasons JFH and FT stated. Sheesh!
Well, I guess I'm just different. The way I see it, if you've got no shot to reach the NCAA tournament, which is the ultimate goal for all 339 D-IA teams, by playing well in the regular season, then the regular season is a completely worthless exercise. It's almost as though they shouldn't even bother playing it, because even if you go 26-3 or 0-29, it's still going to come down to 3 or 4 games in Cleveland at the conference tournament.
What needs to happen is that conference tournaments in college basketball need to be eliminated, and the regular season champion should go to NCs. This whole process we have now renders the regular season as nothing more than a 29-game exhibition which means nothing.
The knowledge that we are going to get screwed again, a la 2009, has sapped all the fun out of this season for me.
H2O - just for the record, I NEVER followed BG's men until that Dakich got canned (thank god), and I never really got into following them on a daily basis until last year, not surprisingly the first year they've been good since the early part of the decade. I would not even give two seconds of my time to team as pathetic as UT's men's basketball team. Why? Just watching that would be bring tears to my eyes on account of their terrible play. I would be literally embarrassed to call myself a fan of a team that bad. Ideally after watching a sporting event I want to be happy, not frustrated and angry, or worse, de-sensitized to such hideous play.
And with that, I've made my last post on this forum until the MAC tournament. Thanks J4H for convincing me that my time is more worthwhile than watching some meaningless regular season MAC games. Smell ya later.
