RECRUITING VIDEO IS UP ON BG WEBSITE

Post by edr4225 »

Overall,

I like the Wr class that we brought in, Heath Jackson, Nick Mcnight and Marcus beaurem all showed nice ability in their highlights. The DBs and Linebackers looked very athletic in the video, especially Gabe Martin(LB), Charlie Walker(LB),Jerry Bates(DB) and Aaron Foster(DB). The RB Jamel Martin runs with authority and should fit in right away. QB Caleb Watkins looks very agile and can throw on the move and QB Trent Hurley looks to be more pro style, but showed a good arm strength. I think this class will contribute well for future years, go falcons

Justin Ford, Safety from Grand Rapids, looks a lot like Jarret Sanderson.

Excluding incoming freshmen, our DL are young (1-Jr, 6-Fr/So) and small (262 avg). Hopefully they can pack some meat on Delaney and the rest of the D-line to become the run stoppers we desperately need.

DEs also young with 3-Jr and 5-Fr listed.

Flewellyn has nice feet...he pulled nicely a couple of times there. I like the OL recruits in general...you want guys who have the agility to make that foirst block and then get downfield. These guys seem to have that...in particular, Rolf looked pretty athletic for a big kid...hope he stays at OT. So far as the DB's Foster has a bit of a mean streak and Ward looks agressive too...I like that.

I hope Watkins doeesn't think he'll be able to run backwards 25 yards before getting the ball out in college.... :-)

Tought to get a read on the WR's...there can be such a gap in talent between a scholarship athlete and some generic HS DB...

Thise TE's are going to be great targets in the red zone....it'll be awesome to have the ball inside the 10 in a two TE set with guys who can catch the ball...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I thought Rolf was lited at TE or even DE as well although he does have the frame for OT if he packs on the pounds. He's listed anywhere from 6'6 245 from scout to 6'7 260 from rivals.

Things that stood out for me

Foster and BooBoo are great athletes at safety, Gilbert looked quick for a 250 pound DE. How many 250 lb guys play DE in HS. Thats awesome.

Jackson and Bearum both looked good, especially Jackson who did not seem to have a great QB.

I loved the RB too, he had quick feet and seemed to accelerate really quickly

Rolf is supposed to be staying at TE for now. But that gives three TE recruits with some pretty good size. I'm sure Coach Clawson has something in mind for the offense to feature the TE more. Then again, the big guy from FLA seemed to line up at WR in some of his highlights, so maybe he will be moving out there.

The son of former Falcon B-baller Bill Faine(and nephew of Joe) Mitchell is a pretty solid basketball player as well. Accepted a football scholarship to the University of Findlay.

if any of Jackson's video was from his Jr. yr. then the QB throwing to him would be Zac Dysert of Miami as they were HS teammates at Ada.

Yeah Rolf is a big guy. Hes from my hometown and I caught a few games this year. He played great football and can catch the ball very well and is also good on defense. I'm pretty excited to see what he can do for us. My old high school has put out a few good players for the falcons in the past. Namely for baseball with both Cory Loomis and Kevin Leady. Both were really good QBs in high school. Leady lead the Eastwood Eagles to the playoffs while I was a senior there, but both went on to play baseball although Leady was actually recruited by the football team as I recall, and after helping the baseball team win the MAC Championship, Cory went on to play in the minors. Rutherford, who just finished his senior year at BG was also from Eastwood. Coach Rutherford has been doing a great job coaching kids and I hope he creates future talent for the Falcons.

National Signing Day and the NFL Draft are like technology conventions. You get excited by everything that is new and shiny, when the reality is that only a few of these guys will pan out. You hope that 7-10 of these young men will become quality starters or back-ups in their time at BG.

Good point. It's a numbers game, for sure. I recall how excited we were about names like Luke Alexander, Lance Latkiewicz (sp?), D.J. Young, Marc Stevens and the list goes on and on.
