Football recruited walk-ons
Football recruited walk-ons
Has anyone heard any names that are coming to BG as recruited walk-ons? I know Coach Clawson mentioned that there were some at the recruiting get together in Perrysburg, but said he can't talk about them untiol they sign or are in school.
I am hearing that Kyle Burkhardt from Toledo CC is one of them, and if so is a GREAT get for the Falcons. I saw him kick in two hs games this fall, and was very impressed by his leg and accuracy. Any more?

Kyle's aunt is Sgt. Rock on AZZ.

Saw Burkhardt kick against BGHS and I am shocked he didn't get a scholarship offer. He made two 40+ yard FGs that game and both would have been good from 50+. And I know he had a successful rest of the season.

Toledo was looking at him. Not sure if he was offered up there (I doubt it). But his aunt is a pretty persuasive person.

Speaking of kickers ... who's punting next year? Jerry Phillips?

Re: Football recruited walk-ons
Seems as if a lot of schools don't "recruit" kickers, unless absolutely a necessity. (I'm referring to awarding a scholarship)...noticed that OSU actually DID do so this year... I referred a kicker from Mayfield HS who kicked one SIXTY ONE yards this year (admittedly on a "free kick")... something like 2/3 of his kickoffs went to the endzone... He ultimately signed with Vanderbilt (I think)... BG didn't seem to have much interest as they have a couple of kickers on the roster coming back...who the PUNTER will be remains to be seen.Warthog wrote:Saw Burkhardt kick against BGHS and I am shocked he didn't get a scholarship offer. Re: Football recruited walk-ons
Kyle Burkhardt was also 1st Team All-Ohio for DII last year. Maybe he is waiting to see how is senior year plays out with that before committing to football?
Finally a senior!
Re: Football recruited walk-ons
As was mentioned before I think Alex Nossaman from Bryan is coming in as a preferred walk-on.
Re: Football recruited walk-ons
Indiana always, may still, get soccer players to walk on or try out for kicking/punting positions...any thoughts on that?
Re: Football recruited walk-ons
Might be worth investigating. I'm not up on the state of the men's soccer team at BG, or the relationship their coach has with any of the others.cowboyjoe wrote:Indiana always, may still, get soccer players to walk on or try out for kicking/punting positions...any thoughts on that?

You're a year behind. Kyle is a senior this year. But he was first team all-Ohio for the 2009 season.eRichFalcon wrote:Kyle Burkhardt was also 1st Team All-Ohio for DII last year. Maybe he is waiting to see how is senior year plays out with that before committing to football?

Yes, he's a senior this year. Since he had a very successful junior year playing baseball, I was suggesting that a strong campaign this year in baseball might open up some non-football opportunities.Warthog wrote:You're a year behind. Re: Football recruited walk-ons
Coach Clawson made it clear that several "preferred" or "recruited" walk ons would be added to the team and their names might be available at a later date. I believe no coach can comment on those players until they are actually enrolled. I belive he indicated that it was "possible" that one of these players could be a kicking specialist in response to a question.
But I guess he might have simply been saying that the staff examines and evaluates players on an on going basis as the year's recruiting/college choices are made at all levels of coillege play etc.
61 is certainly correct. Many times a kicking specialist may start at a school without a scholarship with a chance to earn one later. Happens every year. In some cases, students with ecellent grades etc can earn a partial merit based scholarship which might assist these "recruited" walk on candidates. Then, based on athletic performance etc, an athletic scholarship may open.
Go Falcons!
