Oh, they were playing dirty... don't get me wrong, but it wasn't anything extreme. That's always been Miami's style against lower matched opponents. In the past 8 years I've watched them, they've played the same way every game.Falcon Frenzy wrote:I'm sorry but I totally disagree. We sit right against the ice and we could see how the Miami players were holding our guys down on the ice. Numerous times our guys would try to get up and the Miami players wouldn't let them. Maybe you had a different perspective from where you were sitting but that's not the game that I watched.toddpav wrote: As for the game itself... I can't say much that already hasn't been said. Miami really wasn't playing all that dirty, honestly. We were just that much outmatched, which led to a ton of penalties, and then both sides got chippy. The line brawl was, while fun to watch, more embarrassing for Miami than anything else. When their goalie left the crease, it got even more out of hand.

Arm/stick. It was a glancing blow at most. The goalie didn't move from where he covered the puck until he stood up. That work?toddpav wrote: So, wait, he didn't hit the goalie but he did hit the goalie? He hit him pretty good... enough to warrant some retaliation. They were just protecting their goalie, but it still got out of hand.

If the same thing happened to Eno, Hammond, or Greer I'd hope we'd react the same way.pdt1081 wrote:Arm/stick. It was a glancing blow at most. I really saw nothing wrong with Miami's style of play. Hockey is the purest sport in terms of give and take and it was just the style of game we were seeing. We took some runs at them, they took some runs at us. But, we could discuss that issue till the Frozen Four.
In regards to the penalties in the third you have to realize that after the line brawl late in the 2nd anything even close to a penalty was going to get called and it would be the max.
We could complain about the officials all we want but we just gave up 10 goals to a conference opponent.

Total embarressment tonight. For not only BG Hockey but for the University and athletic department. I don't even know where to begin, a once proud program I watch get scored on ten times tonight.......we were out everythinged tonight. Players........3-4 inches a player and 20 -30 pounds a player, thats straight recruiting and the univeristy backing your progam and having faith in something that might still produce results. We can make every excuse in the book about officials tonight but at 10 - 2, you basically have to tip your cap to the CCHA champs in miami. Class less?......that's not for me to judge there were some questionable things on both sides tonight. Miami proved why they were number one in the country. A call here or there doesn't constitue a 10-2 beating. The unrelated topic is that as much as the hockey team is struggling this year, they are still out drawing the mens basketball team in attendance, who will be getting a new arena in the near future. If the athletic department and the university put a little faith in the hockey program and kept up facility wise with others in the CCHA, we would not be losing 10-2 any night or out manned in any game because student-athletes would want to come and play at a great place. Why do players go to miami? Amazing place to play and university backing. I think Coach Williams is doing the best he can with what he has, if given the proper support (like at miami) he could do much more and get better recruits into BGSU.

The Stroh Center was started with an $8 million gift. The Miami hockey facility was started with a large multimillion dollar gift.unfalconbelievable wrote:The unrelated topic is that as much as the hockey team is struggling this year, they are still out drawing the mens basketball team in attendance, who will be getting a new arena in the near future. If someone will give a sizeable gift to the university dedicated to a new hockey facility, you would see a new facility for hockey.
Don't forget, the Stroh Center will be the home venue for three teams (men's and women's basketball as well as volleyball) unlike the Ice Arena which houses one team. I would like to see MAJOR improvements to the Ice Arena or a new facility built. But I'm not able to make the donation that will get the puck moving on a new facility.

Re: Short Week: Short Game Thread
The game... wow... I've been to a ton of hockey games... and its been a long time since I've seen anything like this... reminded me of the old BG/MSU games back in the late 80's and early 90's. That being said, and take my Miami perspective however you will but this game was embarassing all the way around for all parties around.
1) For the BG guy who blamed Hall... right on spot there. The guy was horrendous and I thought the two referee system
was suppose to clean hockey up, not destroy the game. There was no control by either side.
2) I didn't see last nights game, but tonight's game showed the difference in talent, size, speed, and skill. BG does not match up anywhere on the ice. This was readily apparent as Miami players were able to carry the puck everywhere without fear of being taken off of the puck.
3) As for the Vaive comment.... come on now. The guy is big, he hits everyone, and he is called a goon because of his size. If he was 5'8 and hitting everyone, he would be called scrappy. The guy physically dominates his opponents and competitive athletes hate that.
4) I don't think Miami needs to clutch or hold anyone in the league this year to win games. The slashing by BG players and a few other players was un-necesary. Miami was no better, but they were much more retaliation then they were instigating
5) Being dominated is not fun, it hurts, its an ego shot, and franjly no one wants to be on the end of a butt kicking. Take the lumps, learn from it, come back stronger. BG has been down for some time now, and I think the frustration is just boiling over.
6) If I never see another game like this it will be a blessing for everyone and the CCHA. We need the league to be competitive. We need great officiating. We need clean hockey, because there was very little of this.

ToddPav's Picture #85 ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/toddpavlac ... 299434681/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )is the photo that best sums up where it all went wrong in my eyes as far as officiating is concerned...a complete leg-lock by the Miami player on Ruel...if Ruel had gone down another direction, we might have been talking about a serious knee injury. NOTHING was called on the Miami player and Ruel got 2 minutes for holding.
The game was disgusting and messy for a number of reasons, all of which have been stated but to say that the past few years of frustration are boiling over is to say that this debacle was entirely the fault of BG and/or it's fans. Far from it. It all started early on Friday night when the captain of the RedHawks (#9) fired a puck in anger at the BG student section AFTER the whistle. Thankfully, it didn't reach the top of the glass, or it might have been far worse than just a classless move. Each team gave as good as it got both in the stands and on the ice. Miami and their coaching staff did not behave as I believe a #1 team in the country should represent itself other than on the scoreboard. I have always been a supporter of the Miami hockey program seeing as though they aren't one of the "chosen" Michigan schools and even rooted for them in the NCAA's last year. That won't happen again.

There was a girl who got hit with a puck on Friday night in the BG student section... that was fired over the glass by a miami player. She was bleeding a lot... was that the same play you're referring to?

I remember reading about a puck going into the stands and cutting a girl as it happened Friday, but I wasn't there. Maybe it was a different instance?musicman2343 wrote:You sure about that? No, a student definitely got cut. She was in the student section, about three or four rows up. It was from the puck.

Re: Short Week: Short Game Thread
I don't know of the girl you are referring to ToddPav, but I know that the incident I am referring to LUCKILY didn't result in an injury. The puck clearly hit the glass and fell back down to the ice. It IS possible that in an attempt to clear the puck from that zone in a different part of the game that someone might have gotten hit. I am not sure. Altoid Storm would probably be the best person around here to ask.
I have to give props to Altoid and her sign....it CLEARLY made an impression on the RedHawks and that getting under the players skin is EXACTLY what the student section should be doing...WELL DONE!
