Will Prochaska repeat as MAC poy?
Will Prochaska repeat as MAC poy?
I think she has a chance to repeat this award but it is not as easy a call as last season. BG was so dominant in the league and Prochaska had big, memorable games against good teams. Toledo's Tamika Mays probably has just as good a chance as Prochaska does this season. Can anyone else sneak in and grab the Player of the Year?
Re: Will Prochaska repeat as MAC poy?
There are players with better numbers than Prochaska and Mays, but they play for teams that aren't challenging for the division title. In conference play, Kourtney Brown of Buffalo is second in the league with 19.2 ppg, first in the league with 11.5 rpg, and first in the league with 2.82 blocks per game, but the Bulls are 3-8. Emily Maggert of Ball State is fourth with 18.3 ppg and third with 10.7 rpg, but the Cardinals are 4-8. I think it's pretty hard to get POY when your team has a losing record.
Prochaska and Mays are both averaging 18.0 ppg, good for a tie for fifth. Mays is sixth with 8.5 rpg, and Prochaska is not in the top 20. I still like Prochaska to win POY, partly because she has more star quality in being able to take over games with explosive scoring bursts, but also because of her defense. She's got a combination of quickness and length that make her a tough one on one defender.
Also, Tanika Mays sustained a leg injury in pre-game warmups here against Ohio two games ago, did not start in that game, and did not play at all in the Rockets' next game. Injury could affect her chances to win the award.
Other players that I've been impressed with have been Kaihla Szunko of Central Michigan, who is averaging a double double with 14.0 ppg and 10.8 rpg, and Taisja Jones of Kent State, 17.6 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Tavelyn James of Eastern Michigan is the league's leading scorer with 21.8 ppg.

I got to believe that Kara Murphy at Akron will get some consideration. Plus, Jodi Kest deserves Coach of the Year consideration for where she's taken that program in less than three years.

Yep. Brown and Szunko certainly have the numbers, but unfortunately for them, team won-loss records do play a big factor
Re: Will Prochaska repeat as MAC poy?
The other thing that might come into consideration is DEFENSE. If you notice, Lo has taken over our "stopper" role from Golds this year and has been quite successful.
Re: Will Prochaska repeat as MAC poy?
When are the post-season awards announced, before or after the conf. tourney?
Re: Will Prochaska repeat as MAC poy?
I think the awards are presented before the first games in Cleveland---so that might be Tuesday evening.
As for Lo & POY, if you asked her I think she'd say she wants the league tournament championship & go to the NC's. I felt Tracey wanted to give back the award she won for a chance to play in the BiG Dance.
It's a team of teammates not individuals that's one reason BG has & continues to be successful.

Lo' probably has a 40% chance at POY.
The Falcons of this year are not the gee whiz dominant team of the past seasos, no "golds" no Ali Mann or Katie, but the find a way to get the job done. Any one can take over a game from Nurse, Pontius, Lo', Tara or Uhl, with a cast of newcomers from Hennigan to Z to Pappenfuss and Stefan and Clapper. I keep hoping that Lo is going to explode in a game for huge numbers where everything offensive works. Her defense is underrated, but has been stellar all year.
Lo sure gets Workhorse of the Year awards. Whether it translates to POY remains to be seen. I'm guessing she'll take Conference champion MVP over POY any day.
