Saturdaay night was a turning point

Post by dforde »

So, let's review!

Got to meet Ken Morrow, a true gentleman. Ken signed about 10 things for me and then let me take 2 photos of him with my son and his 1980 Olympic Gold Medal around my sons neck. I was so excited I could hardly keep the camera still. The arena was packed and we honored a great group of Falcon seniors. We win a very exciting game in a shoot out and then coach has the seniors take a curtain call.

We have turned the corner and this program is on the way back. What an AWESOME night.

I think we may have come around as well and are looking at the road ahead. We have a lot to do. I hope one of the boxes on that check list read
Extend Dennis Williams a 5 year contract

+1! Even though this team didn't win a ton of games this year I definitely feel that Coach Williams is the man that needs to be walking back and forth behind the players. He deifnitely gives those young men a spark!

The team seemed to get better as the season went along. We were obviously overmatched in some games, but the players kept their heads up and IMPROVED all season long! I am really looking forward to next hockey season!

Saturday night was absolute perfection. I didn't want the evening to end. Here are the highlights (listed in chronological order), from my personal prospective:

1. Hearing first hand from Dr Cartwright's mouth the fact that she and the trustees 'get it'. Hearing the passion, enthusiasm and good news from Garry Galley and Mike Pikel is NICE, but actually hearing her speak about the history of the program, and the commitment to insure it's future...I'm excited!

2. Meeting Ken Morrow, and better yet, having the opportunity to introduce him to my wife. She never had the opportunity to see him play, but has heard me speak of him many times over the years. Kenny is the standard by which I have always judged defensemen.

3. Witnessing the respectful enthusiasm with which Kenny was welcomed at the Arena...our fans, their fans, both teams... hell, even the officials. Especially remarkable when you consider the fact that most of the crowd hadn't even been born when his major accomplishments were carried out.

4. Sometimes just ONE national anthem can be one too many, but we got three for the price of one...and that young lady SURE CAN SING! The only way it could have been better would have been if she had known the words to the Slovakian anthem.

5. Just before the opening faceoff, the MSU fans in front of us started their 'go green, go white' chant and our entire row shouted "go suck an egg"...they never tried it again. Every time their fans started anything, our crowd drowned them right out.

6. Solway's goal was sweet, and I had a perfect line of sight on it.

7. JST's goal was just flat out sick...you could see it coming as if it was being played in super slow motion.

8. Coach's decision to let Tomas take the 3rd turn on the shootout...and then he converts!

9. The curtain call for the seniors.

10. Wondering what would be an appropriate way of disposing of the "Nebraska-Omaha" banner upon their departure from the CCHA ...a ritual burning? ...cut it in small strips or squares and offer them on e-bay? ...use it to wrap a big fish, and send it to them as a Sicilian message ("Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes")

Put the "Nebraska-Omaha" banner under a floormat in the lobby of the Ice Arena, so everyone can wipe their feet on them!

Don't know if it's "legal" being State property and all, but I think the idea of putting the banner on ebay and letting UNO know about it is a good idea. Proceeds can go to "Bring Back the Glory" ... a fitting use of Maverick money should one of their fans get the bid.
